As for someone who has watched quite a bit of Coyote games (not recently), Smith has always played for a crappy Coyotes team. OEL cannot do everything. When was the last time a Coyotes player hit 60 points? It's been a while.
I was a fan of Elliott, but the guy never played over 50 games. Aside from Hiller, Ramo, Ortiz Elliott and Johnson were never proven starters. We kept trying to shoot for the stars and cross our fingers that one would become "the one." At least Smith is conditioned enough to play 55-60 games if need be. My guess is we see smith for 55 games and lack for 27. So 2:1 ratio.
For me, it's Smith > Elliott > Johnson > Lack
Pretty much offsets. I hope Lack can prove me wrong, but I don't want to see him in net that much.

Hopefully he can keep that up now that he's on our side, as well as his stellar play against the Coilers.
Winning a game in the Honda Center would be a nice bonus too.

If Mike Smith wins a game in the goddamned Honda Centre we're going to have to retire his damned number. And I'd do it happily.
And if he doesnt then we have to burn that hellhole to the ground.
Also happily.

Yes, we all want our team to win, but I'd rather watch exciting hockey while they do it.
That said, Arizona was so boring to watch last year

Mike Smith is 2-1-0 plus one S/O loss in his last four visits to Anaheim. I think chances are good that he wins there again this year.

Sounds like he'll have another set for the away jerseys maybe.

Exactly, he is a Johnson is a backup for a reason...you can't compare him to a proven NHL starter. There are no guarantees but I am more confident with Smith in net than Johnson, Elliott, Hiller, or Ramo

Three starts in Anaheim between 2013-16: 0 wins, 2 losses, one S/O loss.

I’ve always thought dark pads made the 5 hole stand out more and easier to aim at. Like Elliot’s red pads. If I were designing pads I’d make a bullseye pattern where the bullseye is centred in some weird non-symmetrical spot. Play the mind game with the shooter.

Help, save, whatever.
|
I'll be interested to see how he responds to playing in a completely different hockey market. Playing for Phoenix (where no one cares if you win or lose) and going to Calgary (a hockey city with high expectations for the season) is quite the change.

I think he'll be alright. He grew up Canadian so he knows what the crowds are like.
These guys are all professionals and play in Canadian cities anyways on the road. It's not like he's playing in some foreign country for the first time. I'm cautiously optimistic he will do well here.
