This is a solid deal. I was convinced he would come in higher actually. As Mister Joji posted above - cheaper than Kassian! I was surprised by that.
I really believe that Ferland is going to be more than a depth guy (and as soon as this upcoming season if he starts on the top line and stays there), but he is a great depth guy right now. Good to see him not getting overpaid, as these are the contracts that end up hurting an organization.
Brouwer is essentially the only poor-value contract left (Stajan is borderline for me, as he does bring face-off acumen, leadership, and some versatility). Treliving is really doing well at these signings, and it is also nice to see players not holding out for the moon.

for sure Ferland at 1.75M for 2 years is a great deal. I'd rather he have that than 3.5M

Ferland isn't getting 3.5M per.

Wow. That site sucks:

At 1.75 that is really great deal. Ferland is an important part of the team and that's not much money for what he can bring.

3 years would likely have had $2.5M AAV.
Extending UFA is always expensive.

Tough to see him justify the $750k per increase for one additional year. I personally think the Bouma contract has completely changed how Tree deals with these players. Not wanting to get into an arbitration issue he walks away from Colborne and Chiasson. Now he gives Ferland a shorter term deal to mitigate the risk that he doesn't take a step forward. The concern is Ferland becomes a monster power forward and the Flames have a hard time keeping him when he hits UFA in 2 years at 27

Here's some guesses on the rest of the lineup.
Lazar...........$1.2M
Kulak..........$0.8M
Bennett.......$2.5M
Jankowski..$0.925M
Total..........$5.425M
Leaving $2.675M for Iginla or other

If he has a great 2 years then it likely means so will the flames. Guy's a rally starter. I hope we're worried about him needing a big payday in 2 years tbqh

I'm not sure what argument Lazar would have to get 1.2 million.

Yeah...the guy is very much a borderline NHLer at this point. He should be happy with any kind of one way contract.

Under three years and under 2 million per, this is a good signing.

Would have liked to buy up a UFA year, but giving the player control at the end of the contract is the price you pay for the low AAV. And both sides have the option of renewing after one year if the fit seems good and the team has a better idea exactly what they have in Ferland and what his value should be going forward.
