Doubt Foo makes the club. HIGHLY doubt he has been promised a spot
Corban Knight got full bonuses, a jersey number, and a press conference. Got sent down, and that was before "always earned, never given"
yah because he was corban knight and skated like he was standing in molasses. If Foo can keep up, and it seems he has the jets to do so, dont be shocked if he makes the roster.
"But to start putting expectations on him at this point is foolish. He has a chance to have a real good career. His first order of business is having his best summer. He'll start in development camp, we'll get a real solid plan in place for him, he'll come into rookie camp and we'll take it each step of the way.
Heh.

If he signs in Edmonton: Next Cammy
If he doesnt: ECHL scrub

He comes across as smart, but not manipulative. He seems honest and forthright, a good communicator that was slated to be captain next year before making his decision to go pro....
Said he had over 20 teams contact him and was quick to respond with 'under 5' when asked what his short list was like now.
He's really taking his time and going over all the pros and cons for each of the remaining teams, which is why he didn't make his decision sooner.
Quote:
since we have a serious lack of RH shots in the system (Puljujarvi notwithstanding) he'd be a great pick-up if he chooses to stay home

When I watched his [highlight reel] the first time, I got literal goosebumps. Just imagine him and McDavid on a line together if he could translate his game to the NHL level.

Would be like another free 2nd round pick, sign me up. If I was a FA id still look at Edmontons depth forwards and see a big chance to play asap. I mean Cagguila got significant minutes from get go. Competition is an aging Letestu (old coach lol), Pak, Slepyshev and Pitlick. Plus its your home town team who just went to round 2

@NHLFlames are set to sign Free Agent Spencer Foo sometime this coming week, source close to the family says the #Flames are the team.
Meh. If it happens, oh well. But this guy tweets a lot of garbage. iirc he said a bunch of stuff last summer that never happened. His last four "rumours" were all wrong.
Joshua Marshall @JMarshyBosco93 Jun 22
.@NHLFlames are closing in on @NYIslanders D Travis Hamonic from what I'm told. Sounds like a 1st round pick & Sam Bennett are the pieces...
Joshua Marshall @JMarshyBosco93 Jun 22
Kris Russell is set to re-signs with the @EdmontonOilers in the next 24-48 hours. 4 years/$18M with a full NMC is what I'm told. #Oilers
Joshua Marshall @JMarshyBosco93 Jun 16
The asking price for @NYIslanders D Travis Hamonic is a top 6 F, 1st round pick & a prospect. #Islanders

I can confirm that jordan Eberle will be traded by 3 pm on Saturday #oilers

Well the way I see it is this... if he's the kind of person that desperately wants an NHL paycheque, then perhaps the Oilers don't give him the best opportunity so he could sign elsewhere.
If he is the kind of person that is a winner that wants more than anything to win a Cup and play with other great NHL stars in a program that could be great for the next 10 years, then the Oilers are the best up and coming choice. Like the Pens or Blackhawks, think of signing on those teams 8 or 9 years ago?? Sustained success on the back of two star forwards. If he's a winner, he'll sign with the Oilers.
Those sneaky little hobbitses...

WTF do they have over Chia that's two now they stole. Versteeg they stole right from camp.

Can't say I didn't tell ya guys so. Kid snubbed us for the Lames.
This whole Flames getting everyone we're interested in thing is getting annoying.
Quote:
He chose the Flames. Colour me shocked.
Quote:
Haha, of course. That's 4 now that the Flames have signed or traded for that the Oilers were strongly after. Hamilton, Versteeg, Hamonic and Foo. No big deal really about Foo, just kind of funny how the Flames always steal these guys.

It's getting ####ing annoying losing players to Calgary.

Lmao, as I've said before, he's nothing special, but to sign with the Flames.....
and I actually don't blame him.

Foo ****ers

Well fine, #### you. I didn't want you anyways now that I found out you signed somewhere else.

It's funny how quickly you can go from hoping a kid will be a productive NHLer to hoping they'll be a career ECHLer.

Should I be worried about the Flames now? They're having a pretty good week

I dislike how much we have talked about the flames this last week. Lil bitches making moves. We have talked more about them this week than last year.

Wow, getting swept last year really pissed them off. They've been bulking up for this season's Battle of Alberta.
Quote:
They are fairly set on D, right now it looks like...
Gio/Hamilton
Brodie/Hamonic
Pretty solid top 4 imo, don't really know much about the bottom pairing but it's not as hard to plug in the meantime. Not to mention they have Fox, Kylington and now Valimaki as strong D prospects.
As for forwards I think they are average... could use RW depth and hopefully Bennett comes around. Strong enough as a team to out-compete LA and San Jose is mostly what I'm saying, and those are the teams that lead the charge for a wildcard spot imo.

I doubt he plays on a line with Johnny. With Foo's skill-set he's more of a Johnny Junior, except on the other wing. A truculent guy like Ferland is a better complementary player for Johnny. Foo might be better suited for, say, a Lazar/Bennett line.
“He’s greasy,” Starman said. “He just does a lot of little things that are fun to watch. He’s got electric speed, hands, guts. He’s not afraid to try something difficult. He’s been good. He’s just fun to watch and he plays with an edge.”
“That consistency has been very important because it has allowed the younger players to see that through consistency breeds success,” Union coach Rick Bennett said. “Spencer is one of the hardest workers in practice each day. Hopefully, that resonates throughout the year and when he moves on. My hope is that my younger players emulate his work ethic and consistency.”- Joshua Seguin www.collegehockeynews.com
I keep reading this as Foo having "electric guts". I need sleep...

I get why a lot of people are suggesting him as a linemate for Bennett, but he screams Gaudreau to me. He is really adept at give-and-goes, which is Gaudreau's forte but Johnny is still hunting for his partner on that front since Hudler left.
I am not giving him the spot without earning it, but I think he will. And the lines I like (once that happens) are:
and there are lots of candidates for the Backlund line
I would guess maybe sometime mid-season we see something like this.
If Foo has chemistry on the top line like that, maybe that leaves Backlund and Frolik to shepherd Lazar, with Tkachuk, Bennett, and Ferland as the tough-as-nails line.
I'd try to shelter one of Foo/Jankowski with Backlund and Frolik. I don't see Tkachuk's game translating well with the top line personally so I would do something like
I think the top pairing can produce fine with Ferland. Backlund and Frolik will allow a good two way up and comer like Jankowski to flourish. Having Tkachuk and Foo gives Bennett the skill and truculence he needs for his game on a "young guns" line. Throw whoever you want out on the forth line as long as Hathaway is one of them and we got ourselves a team.

Foo is either 1RW or 3RW. Lazar has an outside chance at 1RW too.
This sets up moving Ferland back down to 3LW in time which he is better suited for.
Where Jankowski plays is a huge wildcard here. With many interesting options bolded.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland/Foo/Lazar
Tkachuk/Jankowski-Backlund-Frolik
Ferland/Jankowski/Tkachuk-Bennett-Lazar/Foo
Jankowski/Stajan-Stajan/Jankowski-Brouwer
Bouma and one of Versteeg/Chiasson
This move also allows enough cap space in the forward ranks to consider a longer term deal for Bennett now rather than bridge deal. Sure looks like they are saving money for that.
I think we still will see one of Versteeg and Chaisson for a reasonable one year deal in case of injury. Either could easily be supplanted to Stockton/waived if a prospect is surprisingly ready.
This lineup has some much flexibility to address injuries when they occur.
BTs wizardry!
