Oilers know McDavid will get offer sheeted if he makes it to RFA, that's why they plan on extending him before that and publicly stated that McDavid is priority and Draisatl comes after.

Yeah, McDavid would 100% get offer sheeted if Edmonton lets him go to RFA. He won't get there though so I don't think it's worth discussing. As awesome as it would be, he's not leaving Edmonton as an RFA. I doubt he'll leave as a UFA either.

Did the Philly/SJ/Calgary offer sheets piss off the league?
I know STL and VAN both offer sheeted a player, but literally nothing has happened from the rest of the offer sheets since 2006.
I highly doubt any team is thinking of ways to screw Edmonton over. In fact anytime I hear offer sheets brought up on radio (in relation to draisaitl) they are quickly shot down by insiders and pundits.

The fact that Mcdavid will be signed before Drysaddle or anyone else for that matter gives Mcdavid more leverage in negotiations IMO. The oilers will try to use it to their advantage stating he's taking money away from Draisaitl and could make them less competitive but the cards in Mcdavids hands. It would be a shame if the oilers got a bargain deal signed with him.

The Oilers gave Vanek an offer sheet as well. The Oilers love the offer sheet.

Everybody should own a pair of good sweatpants.
It's where and when you wear them that makes you no good.

A bargain deal won't happen. He'll get max and he knows it, and he doesn't have some stupid superstitious affinity for the number 97 either.

There will be no bargain, McDavid's agent will basically walk in and say, if you want max term, we want max dollars, if you want a bridge deal to UFA we can talk about dollars.
Then he'll lean back and put his feet on the desk and crack some gum.
Then the Oilers will ask if he wants anything else, and he'll tell him that his client wants a bowl of red M+M's peeled before every game in his private dressing room because he doesn't want to talk to the rest of the trash.
Oh and he wants the Oiler logo to change to reflect the new name of the team, the Edmonton McDavids.

I think you are already starting to see the concessions McDavid is asking for. Chiarelli has to call him Mr. McDavid.

8 x $12.5 should be the ask from McDavid. Not sure how far they need to move from that.

McDavid shouldn't get a cut of the concessions.
That's for all players to share equally....

I think the ask is 15 million a year, not sure why he would not ask for the max contract.

He may very well. Just wasn't sure what the highest AAV is right now (I figured around 10), and how much over that he can go over. I think the total value will be around $100mm.

7 years at 100 million seems fair, Connor takes a small hometown discount and the Oilers sign their captain.

You just know that the total contract value will be 97 million, cause, you know, fun!
So 7yrs @ 13.857M or 8yrs @ 12.125M.

Out of curiosity, what were your predictions on the Monahan and Gaudreau contracts?

Based on Crosbys second contract, McDavid should be in the 13-13.25 million AVG
