I haven't read this entire thread but my takeaway from the season end press conference with BT and GG is that Treliving already has a pretty good idea of what is going to happen or how things will play out with the expansion draft.
He said, "Kelly and I have talked ad nauseum about this".
I presume Kelly is Kelly Kisio, former Hitmen GM and current VGK scout.
Some speculation on my part, but that's the general feel I got from that.

He was talking to Megyn Kelly. No, Kelly Osborne. Or Kelly Kelly.

If Treliving feels even the slightest of doubtive that Hickey won't resign, he should be traded to Vegas for more Brouwer incentive.

Why is Hickey quitting exactly?
Also if you mean re-sign, how does one re-sign when they never signed in the first place?

Minor nitpick: Bouma and Stajan will need to be replaced by other players. That's likely to cost something between 1.5-2.5M.
So it's more like 4-5M extra to play with than 6.4M.

The Flames would save 1.33 for Stajan and 1.533 for Bouma next year. Assuming that Hathaway and Janko replace them, that's about a million dollar savings overall.

Am I missing something? If they lose the Stajan and Bouma contract (5.3 total, 3.1 for Stajan 2.2 for Bouma) and replaced them with Jankowski and Hathaway (1.6 total, 925k for Janko 700k for Hathaway) is a saving of 3.7M. Are you counting on them buying them out?

Yes, I believe those are the savings if they bought them out. I think buying out Stajan makes a lot of sense if he's not movable, but makes less sense for Bouma. The Flames could send Bouma down to the AHL and save almost 50% of his cap hit that way.

I think both Stajan and Bouma could be traded with salary retention. With Vegas stripping away 30+ jobs from the other teams, NHL teams could be looking to fill those gaps with cheap, NHL talent rather than risk putting prospects into roles they're not ready for.
Right now the playoffs have a 50% turnover rate from year to year. Parity has never been so high, and with teams knowing they can make the playoffs with changes to their line-up and coaching, I would imagine Stajan and Bouma would garner some interest because they're still useful players.

I think it could go down very poorly with the rest of the team if the Flames bought out Stajan.

True, but the cap savings would be pretty small. (Since you'd have to replace them.)
Of course there could be a trade where the other team needs a player sent the other way, so that's one possibility. Or if you need to clear up a spot for a prospect.

What about the idea that the Golden Knights sign Elliott as their pick from the Flames. Probably would have the most value of anything the Flames could offer and I doubt that Calgary has any intention of bringing him back.

I feel like Vegas has way better options in goal than Elliott, but it would be a dream for that to happen.
IDK why, because he was just terrible this year, but part of me wonders if Brouwer will bounce back next year. It'd be nice, for sure, but I doubt it.

I rather they take Brouwer, Stajan, Bouma than Elliott so disagree that is a dream scenario. It is a better option than losing Shinkaruk, or Kulak however.
Brouwer bouncing back would be nice but removing that cap hit for free is even better
