Please no. It's obviously the kiss of death for a coach to receive that award. I'd rather he go quietly unappreciated around the league thank you very much.

Best system ever created!
I wonder how it will work in playoffs when their is a full game plan for everything.
It will probably be a lot more effective, regardless of player shifts.

I like his system when they are winning / not so much during the losing streaks.

Thanks! I doubled checked that Sun article and they said November 2005 was the 8 game streak that we could tie

I totally agree. When they win and they're playing fast and in the other zone, it looks pretty awesome. However, when there's a defensive breakdown, cripes, all hell breaks loose in their own zone.
From the team that made it into the playoffs with Hartley to now, when the team plays on the attack, it's great to watch. It's really too bad for Hartley because I think the team got him fired along with banishing 3 goalies. There were times this team almost got Gulutzan and Treliving fired. We'll see what happens next year after the team gets high expectations for making the playoffs.

Hartley's offense typically tries to score right off the rush. I can totally understand that tactic as we didn't have the personnel at the time to play a cycle-oriented, possession-based game.
I'm liking the balance of scoring plays. You're seeing some goals being scored off the rush, other opportunities coming off of a good cycle or smart forecheck. There are 2 subtly different PP units.

FWIW, Burke on 960 said that the system was too complex for the players to grasp at first, the coaches had to simplify it part way through the season

You just agreed with sarcasm.
In any event, I think GG's system looks a lot better than Hartley's when the other team has possession in Calgary's zone. A lot less uncontested slot shots, much more structure.

Had an idea!

Props to the players for sticking with it when everyone on CP, the media and southern Alberta were doubting it.
Shows great leadership.

Wouldn't go that far.
Also I think this is on the coaching staff for keeping with it and making tweaks to get it implemented.

Doubting them but still watching every game and spending money on tickets and merchandise and talking about them daily.
Such bad fans...
System seems to be working well now. Wonder how will it evolve if Brain Burke is saying they simplified it.

My guess is that it already has. I would expect the coaches to continue tweaking it towards what they ideally want to see as players become more and more comfortable with it.

The nice thing is it seems to be complex enough to not be figured out by the other 29 teams after one season.

This will be the measure going forward. If the team flounders next season I think GG is gone.

I don't think that is how NHL coaching works. By and large the way coaches want to have their teams play is basically drawn from the same blue print. Coaches will find that they need to make adjustments according to the strength of their own roster and the players they have to work with. But what separates the great teams from the good teams or the poor teams is that they have enough skill throughout the lineup to orchestrate what they want.
I think this is what you are seeing in Calgary: now that the players have figured out what they need to doing, their collectively a skilled enough group to do it successfully. No amount of counter-tactical coaching from the opposition is going to unravel what waves of skill and depth provide.

That is dumb. I think Gulutzen always had this year to take a step forward with this roster. After securing a playoff berth I don't think there is any doubt that he has earned himself the benefit of the doubt, and at least another full year to go with it.
