On that note - What are some good halogen replacement LEDs? I have halogens throughout my house, and hate the look of LEDs - If I switch, I'd want a good halogen-mimicking LED...Anyone have some suggestions? Something like 3000K.

I had this struggle a while back, and the best answer I have is...Wal-Mart.
It's 30 bucks, but it's the most "true" 2700k LED halogen I've found (and I've bought way too many), and it doesn't buzz when dimmed (which is a huge LED problem).
Very recommended. Buy elsewhere if you can, but Wally World usually has a few in stock.
This is so convenient. I once scored a milk crate full of brand new boxes of 60w incandescent light bulbs. I've been picking away at it for years, and I'm down to my last 4 pack. Sorry guys, but I signed up to get some more free light bulbs.
Sweet! I've never bothered with LED bulbs, so I signed up. I'm on a well, so I wonder if they'll still want to replace my showerhead. I'll take as much as they want to give me, though.
The best part is apparently they are using a Ontario company to do this for us. So this is the NDP's idea of saving us money and creating jobs? Taxing us us immensely and hiring an outside the province company at the tune of a few 100 millions of dollars. And we get a few lightbulbs swapped out and an aerator put in our faucets. Hey Rachel, we already have the highest unemployment in the country and guys like me have been sitting around for months because there's no work on the construction industry and you're busy handing work out to another province. Great.
To be fair...
Their head office is in Ontario but their Western HQ is here in Calgary. And judging by all of the job postings on their website for installers etc. for all over Alberta...the jobs will mostly come from Alberta. Its not like any (or likely very few) of these jobs will be permanent but at least some temp work for some folks who need it.
Personally can't wait to have someone come to my house and change out my lightbulbs and then instruct me on how to properly use said lightbulbs.
I wonder if it's an all or nothing scenario. Can I tell them to give me free light bulbs, but touch my shower head or my UPS integrated power bars and I'll kick you right out the door?
This makes the carbon load of driving around to get these things switched completely irrelevant and pointless to worry about.
Nicely done!
With regards to the amazement of someone coming into the home to change lightbulbs, I can see possible reasoning behind it. Most people don't change. They could have offered a discount on or even free LED bulbs and the number of people who take advantage of it could still be much lower than the number of people who'll take advantage when they don't have to do it themselves.

I would prefer to meet them at the door where they can hand over all those so called free goodies. Then I can tell them to get off my property!

I called earlier today and they said you can pick and choose what you want done/not want done when they come to your home. I can't see many people going for the low flow shower head

I have invented these little reminders to keep you fighting the good fight and thinking about our situation right now with the province in the toilet.
So I am dropping these off at bars around town as a gift to keep it top of mind, look for an NDP urinal puck at a bar or restaurant near you, I was going to sell them but I’d be no better than the government if I did, so they are free.
Gerry Forbes is heard weekday mornings from 5:30 to 10 on CJAY92 FM. His Sun column appears Thursday and Sunday
