No word of a lie, was working on the farm when this horrendous noise started shaking the barn. Ran outside and this helicopter was flying due south not even a few hundred feet overhead. Was an amazing sight to behold!

Are they plane (or relative size of place) specific?
|
Biggest thing is just how it attaches to the wheel of the plane, and it's annoying how different they are. Even the CRJ1/2 is different from a CRJ7/CRJ9. Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 use different towbars. When Continental and United merged, they switched all their Airbus noses over to Boeing so ground crews could use the same towbars for both. That must have been stupid expensive.
You couldn't use a 747 on much of anything else just cause the connection is different.

I have no idea which buses I have flown on. When I was a kid probably 707, 727, and some Lockheed plane. Also whatever Westjet flies these days.
Military was good to me, got to fly in;
CT-114 Tutor
CT-155 Hawk
UH-60 Blackhawk
Pitts Special
CC-115 Buffalo
Never did go up in the CF-18, always intended to but I retired to early. That one would have been fun.

Flew in to the new terminal last night. It smelled so new as soon as I
walked off the plane. Another long walk to customs, they could use more walking escalators.
The customs area was huge, but there was only about 100 or so people.
It might feel different if two 777's land within minutes of each other.
There were lots of Nexus machines, didn't count them but there seemed to be rows of them. Huge area to collect the luggage too.
A very positive first impression.

^ Seems to be a recurring theme that the negative reviews are from outbound passengers.

BA's union is making noise about the diverted A380 last week:
Quote:
The plane was forced to divert to Calgary after the pilot told air traffic control that “toxic gas-type fumes” had filled the cabin - a recording of the conversation has been released and can be heard below. The union Unite, which represents more than 20,000 cabin crew, said that British Airways called the incident an “odour event”, misrepresenting, it said, the seriousness of the situation.

Why would the crew only be affected and not the passengers? APU running while the crew preps the plane prior to boarding?

They wouldn't, it's just BS. Flight deck gets the most fresh air as the packs deliver air at a slightly higher pressure to force out smoke. I know the 737 pneumatic system like the back of my hand, but not much about the A380 so I'm definitely not qualified to say, but it sounds like they should have just put this thing down in Calgary and dealt with the ground issues later.

Who needs a towbar,? Just make sure the ramp is clean and reverse thrust that baby back.
Seriously though, the day of that diversion we had nothing but excess ramp space kicking around the new terminal before it opened. As long as there were air stairs able to reach the plane they could have parked it in a place that would have made it easy to taxi out of.

If they were concerned about having to get sick people out, they'd want a gate.

Wouldn't they be more concerned with getting on the ground ASAP rather than the comforts of a gate versus stairs?
