I thought somebody would have replied to you by now.
Go to User CP -> Edit ignore list -> Add name, click ok. That's it.
Sorry Dion, couldn't help myself.

Yes, otherwise the forum software wouldn't know which posts to hide.

Is there a way to block quotes of ignored posters? I feel the entire process of the ignore feature is ruined by the fact that when someone quotes a poster I have blocked I still get to see what I chose not to see.

A fraction of posts are quoted - so putting someone on ignore still dramatically changes how many of their posts you will see.
And you could also just not read them.

There used to be a super sweet firefox add on that worked with the forum software to wipe out certain posters from existence. They wouldn't show up at all. Anywhere. It was like having godlike powers. Alas it has not been supported for quite some time.

Simple as "Don't like it? Don't click on it" eh?
GMG's that that is your response to anything lately. "Don't like something, don't use it!". Well the point is I want to use it, but if it doesn't perform the task it is meant to, then what is the point of even having it available?
I honestly thought I asked a valid question raising a good point.
And to clarify, the two or three posters I block are quote magnets, so no the feature is absolutely useless limiting the content they make on the site.

Well yeah. No offense but if you don't like something, don't read it.
The Ignore feature largely does what it is supposed to do, with some limitations.
It is most certainly not "absolutely useless".

How would you have it work? If I quote somebody you have on ignore, do you see just my reply? Wouldn't that seem weird to have me ranting about something you didn't know was a direct reply to somebody?
If you have it not show my post if I quote somebody on ignore, what if somebody then quotes my post? How many layers should this software give us?
I get what you are saying, it would be great if the software did exactly what you want it to do. However like most things in IT security, there is some human involvement as well. Spam filters will let the odd piece of spam through; you still need to know not to send that Nigerian prince your money.
The other consideration- how much server resources should be allocated to this? I was away on the 1st, but didn't hear of any issues. Would we want to give up our servers' ability to handle the load to allow for a robust ignore feature?

Thank-you for the more measured and detailed response.
I profess I am not savvy in the operations of a website so your response alleviated some of the "why's" of my query.
Having said that, how hard would it be to have the quote blocked as well. I can see ignored poster "Turd Burgler deluxe" is making a post but I cannot see its content, I figure the same thing could be done in quote.
I understand if that is a sever load issue or whatnot, I just wanted a little clarity. Not some blanket doormat statement like the previous mod made.
Honestly if we are putting people on ignore, it shouldn't really be "let's ignore this person until someone else is having a conversation with them".
Because at the end of the day, if we have someone on ignore, we know full well where the conversation is going and we are choosing not to see it. The ignore functions purpose should be just that, not selective as to how we choose to not see the content. Sorry if this isn't articulated in the best way.
If it is purely a technical issue that is akin to climbing a massive mountain and requires many man hours to make work, I get that it cannot be addressed.

I think a better analogy would be park assist on a car. You are asking how come you still bump into things when using park assist. We are telling you that park assist is there to make it easier for you to park.
In the same way the ignore function's purpose isn't to completely prevent you from seeing everything from certain users. It is there to help you disregard those users.
Contrary to my earlier joke, I don't use the ignore feature. I find it somewhat counter productive as a mod- if there's somebody who should be on my list, perhaps some moderation is required. However there are some people who I disregard. I generally just skim past their posts unless they have a lot of thanks. The ignore feature would just help me have fewer times I need to skim past posts.
And yes, from a technical standpoint the amount of time and resources required are extensive.
