I live in Calgary well within the city limits but for some reason the cul de sac I live on is a black hole for Telus TV - not available and Telus has no plans to make it available so I bundle with Shaw.

Shaw internet rates are going up;

It was inevitable there would be consequences from people cutting the cord as well as the movie rental business going exclusively online. Caps will be coming as well so if you cut the cable Shaw is still going to get their money one way or another.

Just wanted to share a positive experience I had with Telus tech support. We have a 25 mbps plan, and between my son's Netflix and my wife's IPTV, we get good use out of it. We had some speed issues and I called their tech support line. I was on hold for about 30 minutes, but once I got through the guy was able to get to the root of the issue and get it fixed.

So far, that is average. Where he really stepped up was he asked if he could call the next evening to follow up. When he called I wasn't at home, so he asked if he could call a couple of nights later again. So two follow up calls just to make sure I was happy. It's service like that which will make me stay with them.

I'd switch from Shaw if I could get 25mb uplink. I'm on broadband 50 and 3 mbps is pretty pathetic. Otherwise though Shaw has been fantastic.

Edit: Wow, the non-contract internet-only price ($93/mo) is about the same as what I'm paying for Shaw these days (and Shaw is jacking prices on Jan 1st again, because reasons ...). I never had Telus in my house so I even wonder where the cable lands; I do have this weird loop of wire next to my electrical panel, maybe that's it?

Does Telus give bridged modems? That's a deal-breaker for me as I don't want double-NAT'ing or any other ####.

Edit 2: And ... not available. I live in a new neighbourhood, but I've heard that Telus has limited "ports" for access like this?
