That was bizarre. Japan could only play 1 half, absolutely no gas in the 2nd half.

If you're going to prepare for a World Cup and be able to play just one half, might as well stay home. Greece put up a bigger fight.

yeah take a spot away from Asia too.

Baines didn't have a great game but was left out to dry on that side.

Candreva and Darmian had 2 vs 1 on Baines all game and worked the overlap perfectly.

Need more support from the mids, an issue with playing with 4 attackers and really only 2 midfielders.

That means Sterling needed to come back and help out like Candreva and Marchisio did.

Italy was playing the same 4-2-3-1 formation.

I would say Marchisio and Candreva are more traditional midfielders though. Sterling, Welbeck, Rooney, Sturridge are more strikers/wingers and are not as suited to tracking back.

Sterling especially was playing all over the pitch offensively and was not sticking to the left side at all.
