Haha exactly. He's played 48 NHL games, essentially apprenticing as a backup for 2 seasons, exactly what the poster wanted before a goalie became a starter.

This is why even though having a good goalie is one of the most important things for a contending team, it's also the last thing you put in place. It's like the keystone in an arch.

This isn't Sidney Crosby we're talking about. Iginla won't even be among the top 2-3 players on any team he goes to, so I wouldn't expect any marketing bonanza. The boat on Iginla having that sort of impact on a new team sailed 3-4 years ago.

From an owner's son: Iggy made it clear to ownership some time ago that he had no inention of re-signing with the Flames - and no interest in being traded and then coming back after becoming a UFA.

They asked Milan Lucic today about the possibility of bringing in Iggy, and he said they would welcome him 100%. He also mentioned Jarome was one of his idols growing up.

If true, that means he wouldn't re-sign in Calgary in the summer if he ISN'T traded?
If so, trade him. NOW.

So growing up in Vancouver makes one idolize him?
Not exactly a ringning endorsement for the players that were on the Canucks during that time.

Iginla for Bernier makes sense in many ways for both teams but I do not think it is ideal. It's more of a Plan B.
The Flames will have Kipper next year mentoring Ramo. I think Danny Taylor is very underrated and could make a push. Ortio needs some more AHL time and Brossoit and Gilles are both great prospects for 4 - 5 years down the road.
NHL: Kipper - Ramo
AHL: Taylor - Ortio
JR/etc: Brossoit - Gilles
That's 6 quality goalies in varying stages of development.
Adding Bernier would either cause Kipper to not play next year (because he would take #1) or would limit Ramo's potential by taking his #2 spot. However, it's pretty certain that Bernier would be a good starter who could takeover most of the load when Kipper leaves.
I think it's best going for good prospects/young roster players (forwards then defencemen) and draft picks (where we can choose how we want to rebuild).

Morrow is slotting into the third line with Sutter and Cooke.

That's a bit of a stretch to say. He said he was one of his idols growing up, so probably had Canucks idols too. Nothing wrong with having an idol on another team other than your hometown. A generation of kids grew up idolizing Wayne Gretzky even though he played on the Oilers / Kings for most of his time.

His 2 seasons were dismall.
His last season in 2008/2009 he was 4-10 with a GAA of 3.66 and Sv% of .894.
His first season in the KHL 2009/2010 his GAA dropped to 2.11 and Sv% rose to .913
Did he really get that good overnight or was it the league?
Granted he has improved every season that he had been in the KHL.

Sure. If the Flames did acquire Bernier, I'd still bring over Ramo and let them compete for starts. But that's a far better situation for the Flames than MacDonald and Ramo fighting over starts.

Yeah, and they don't need any further help. Iginla is not fast enough for the style the Penguins play at. That's a fact jack.
