The 'Jerome' version of Kipper is 'Miiikkaa Kippruusoff". I remember I could never spell his name right, it is a science.

On the highway back to Calgary, hung over, after a trip to EDM to watch the Flames lose to the Oilers in OT at Rectal the night before.

Congrats to Kipper on his milestone victory. Getting Kipper is by far the most lopsided trade the Flames have ever made and one of the most one-sided in history, right up there with Stojanov for Naslund.

I call him "Ghost Rider"
He's a legendary goalie that you dream of as a fan.
I just hope people don't run him out of town like they did to Vernon.

Negative, the pattern is full.
Now, let's talk about his worth on the trade market

What an absolute treat it has been to watch this guy play for the Flames.
It was a long dark period of trying to remember what it was like to have a #1 goalie.. now it is hard to remember what it is like without one. Nope wait, there it is. *shudder*
4 more years! 4 more years!

I remember an article in the Herald about how the Flames would never be anything more then a farm team for other clubs because we ''tossed away draft picks'' for a no name goaltender who wouldn't amount to anything because he couldn't even hold a job in SJ. I wish I could find that article again but I remember it very clearly.
How that man must have been eating crow for the last decade.

I remember Darryl Sutter talking about it a few years later. He had 2 goalies in mind (being the former coach of SJ). One cost 5 million. The other was 500 thousand.
He got the cheaper model. Eventually he got the more expensive one too (Curtis Joseph).
But it was probably the best 2nd rounder the Flames ever traded?

I was in Maui when the Flames traded for him, and of course hockey news was spotty over there, and I was able to get a USA today and see the Flames result versus Montreal where they won (3-1 I think).
Hard to believe that that 'minor' trade that Sutter made would be so impactful for so long.
Glad to see Kipper with 300 and hope he gets a whole lot more with the Flaming C on his chest.

And it wasn't just a game that he played in that we won. It was yet another game that he won for us.

I still remember the day we traded for him too. John Davidson said he was the best young goalie in the NHL. I thought we should have gone after Jani Hurme from Atlanta.

I remember the year before, a lot of San Jose fans were fawning over Kiprusoff, but I played it off as fans overrating their own prosepcts. Then the year we traded for him, he was struggling at the time.
Wasn't the rumour at the time that it could have been either Toskala or Kiprusoff but San Jose decided to trade Kiprusoff instead? Interesting to think how different things would have gone.

One in particular from my least favourite "sports" writer of all-time:
Quote:
Miikka The Great
Miikka Kiprusoff for a second-round draft pick? Not THE Miikka Kiprusoff? With the 3.25 goals-against average? And a 5-14 record last year? That Miikka Kiprusoff? Apparently Darryl Sutter thinks he's a No. 1 NHL goalie. Oh.

Bruce Dowbiggin, "I Don't Like Mondays", November 17th, 2003
Three weeks later, Kipper is 6-1 with a 1.71 GAA and 0.928 S%
My favourite earlier memory is from his first game when whoever was doing colour for us (I want to say Ryan Walter?) called him Kippa Mikrusoff on more than one occasion.
