I thought the season finale last year was so much better than this year.

He was much better than I thought he would be. It was an okay episode. There have been some this season that were much better.

I'd say if the rumours about Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis are true, SNL is gonna take quite a hit this summer.

The two musical performances were amazing, especially the one with the Foos.
Although the political song with Jeff Beck was a skit, right? That was horrific.
Jagger did a great job with the skits. His impression of Steven Tyler was fantastic and the karaoke skit was great.

Mick did a great job. I really didn't listen to the lyrics on the political song - I was interested in what Jeff Beck was doing.

The problem with skit comedy shows is that there is a lot of unfunny that you have to wade through to get to the funny, so most people don't even watch SNL anymore, they wait for a buddy to send them a link to one skit.
Like the Sandberg as Batman, or Lohan as Hermoine of the c$$k in the box.
The sad part is that the show is 90 minutes, 5 of which is actually funny.
They need to lop 30 minutes off of the show.
Its getting too hard for them to fill 90.

I think it completely depends on the host. If they have a good host who can hold their own with the regulars the show is generally good most of the way through I find. Whenever JT hosts the whole show is gold, they should just add him as a permanent cast member haha.

I thought Mick Jagger was an amazing host for a non-actor.

He is good, but the writing is key. If he was a regular cast member you would get tired of seeing the Liquor Barn, Dick in a Box guy, and Barry Gibb talk show every other week.

Can anyone find the video where Damon Wayans was fired?
Jon Lovitz talked about it on that Podcast Cecil mentioned, but can't find it.

That's definitely the brillance of some of the sketches, especially the ones that you mentioned. When they are used the audience should be giddy to see them, rather than "oh, this again." I used to feel that way with "What's Up With That?". It got really played out after awhile.
What I've always liked about a former cast member hosting is the audience is treated with some great surprises, especially when those favorite old sketches come out. When Maya Rudolph hosted in early 2012, seeing Bronx Beat again with Amy Poehler was a favorite of mine. JT made a special appearance on that one too.
I even thought the Jeopardy! sketches got a little old during the Ferrell days, but when he comes back to host, it's fun to see.

Maya Rudolph is soo underrated. It's almost criminal.

Oh yeah I agree, my comment about him joinging the cast was more tongue in cheek.

It's going to be another "get to know the new cast" year. I hope they give Jay Pharoah more to do than Jay-Z and Denzel Washington. He 's a funny dude and more than just impressions, IMHO.

I hope Pharoah gets more time to do Will Smith impressions.
