Default The Technology Annoucment Thread

I figured we should have a thread dedicated to new releases of technology.

Yesterday Nikon announced the release of three new products.

Entry level DSLR - D3200
24 MP sensor
11 AF points
4 fps

Comes in red and black.

Nikkor 28mm f/1.8 G lens for FX
A wide-angle lens that matches high-pixel-count digital SLRs
Nano Crystal Coat effectively reduces ghost and flare
Large maximum aperture of f/1.8
Silent Wave Motor (SWM) realizes quiet AF operation

Nikon Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a
Quote:
TOKYO - Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a, which enables simple sharing of high-resolution photos captured with a digital-SLR camera with smart devices (Android).
The WU-1a was developed to respond to the needs of users looking for an easy way to share high-resolution photos with other devices or people. This new photographic accessory enables collaboration with the smartphones, tablets, and other smart devices that have become so popular in recent years. By simply connecting the WU-1a to the D3200 DX-format digital-SLR camera, released at the same time as the WU-1a and equipped with a new CMOS image sensor with an effective pixel count of 24.2-million pixels, images captured with the D3200 can be transferred to smart devices over a wireless connection, and the camera's live view display can be shown in the smart device screen for remote control over shooting.

Beautiful entry-level DSLR. Though for some reason anything besides the standard black in a DSLR just seems odd to me.

There are three acceptable colours for cameras: black, to avoid reflections; white, to stay cool in the sun; and camo, for sneaking up on wildlife.

With DSLRs like the Canon T2I and Nikon D3200 becoming increasing accessible, and smartphone cameras becoming increasingly quality, fixed-lens point-and-shoot cameras have become something a forgotten breed. But with the introduction of the RX100—complete with its impressive 1-inch sensor, f/1.8 aperture, and compact body—Sony is trying to make the pocketable camera relevant again. When it comes to specs, the RX100 is nothing short of impressive. The sensor is a 20.2-megapixel beast that's part of Sony's Exmor family and powered by the Bionz processor. The glass is a 28-100mm Vario-Sonnar Zeiss lens with 3.6x optical zoom and that impressive, aforementioned f/1.8 aperture. The camera has an ISO range of 100-25600, with an auto ISO limit of 6400. Video is an AVCHD affair, with 1080p recording at 60 frames (there's also a 720p MP4 mode). The all-aluminum body isn't much bigger than the Canon S100, and comes equipped not only with fully-programmable manual controls on the back, but also around the lens. The all-black camera is nothing short of beautiful, with stripped down, no-nonsense design that invokes the lines of a Leica camera.

$650 for a point and shoot, it better be impressive.

It's a tad more advanced than a $200.00 P&S.

Hopefully that sensor can perform really good in low light situations.

Nikon D3200 continues to impress.

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Pub...or-performance

Receives second highest rating of APS-C reflex cameras.

Quote:
The Nikon D3200’s great strength lies in its Sony CMOS sensor, starting with a record dynamic range that surpassed 13EV at 100 ISO, making the D3200 of great interest for landscape photography.

But the Nikon is also characterized by a high color depth of 24.1 bits, the best score of all the APS-C reflex cameras. It even does better than many full-frame cameras and is beaten only by medium-format cameras and the Nikon D4 and D3x.

As an APS-C, the Nikon D3200 offers very good image quality, despite its entry-level position. Through its design intended for amateurs, it retains a very small footprint (in part due to the removal of a second LCD display on top of the camera), and weighs in at only 550 grams (including battery and memory card). The instruction manual is enhanced with a more graphic presentation so as help photographers learn to use it on the fly. Moreover, the D3200 is a camera that can accompany a beginning photographer a long ways along the photo learning curve.

The Nikon D3200 combines all these qualities while addressing the general public at a very competitive price of $699.

Not too shabby for being an entry level camera.
