Default Does home insurance cover if you do damage to neighbors house?

Just wondering if thats normally in a home insurance policy.

Say you have a fire pit and the wind comes up and you accidentally scortch part of your neighbors siding.

Yes it should. Most all home owners policies carry a legal liability limit of 1 or 2 million.

If you're liable though.

If not the limit is $1000 (?) as a "good neighbor" provision. This is where you can pay to be a good guy, but legally wouldn't necessarily have to.

Going off what the OP said, I would think he'd be liable, but Slava's right, voluntary property damage is usually limited to $1000, I've never heard of it higher then $5000.

Since you've previously mentioned that you're a downtown condo dweller, I'm assuming it's not You that I'm about to chastize, but probably a friend of yours.... WTF is the fire pit doing so close to a house that it could scorch it? And if it's not *that* close to a house, WTF are people doing having a backyard fire in winds high enough to carry flames alllll the way to a house? Either way, someone is stupid.

Jesus.

Backyard fire pits are great things. As teenagers my brother and I had some friends over when the parents were out of town. After quickly going through my Dad's carefully chopped and pilled stack of fire wood, my brother decided to toss my Dad's work bench into the blazing inferno.

He's a Canucks fan, in hindsight we should have expected it.

Your fire pit has to be atleast 2m (6.5') away from your fence, property line or building.
