They honor student discounts all year, not just 'school year'. If they're advertising it now, you can probably get that iPod deal now.

The student discount is year round, but the free iPod Touch is only during "back to school" time (which starts in June, I think).

Dropped into the Apple store yesterday and couldn't resist. I picked up the new i7 Macbook to replace my decrepit Gateway.
