I'm still on my original 360 after 3 years also. Haven't had any trouble with my modded 360 either.

I picked up my PS3 as a YLOD and fixed it up and haven't had an issue with that. Its all luck of the draw.

I'm just going by your gamerscore in your sig but it doesn't seem you play all that much. Probably the reason you haven't had a RROD yet?

I had an original one purchased in December of 2005, and it got RROD last year for the first time... The one they sent back RROD 2 weeks ago......

Wow...hard to believe its been 4 plus years since the 360 came out. Time flies.

They must already be designing the new xbox.

Is everyone with the RROD a hardcore gamer with crazy playtime? I'm sure I read a few people who rarely use their systems with this problem.

Besides that I applaud you for your investigation skills, its true I don't play as often as most. Busted by the sig, who knew

Sony is having problems with the harddrives last I read, therefore a temporary shortage of new Slim models with 160GB HDDs I think.

PS3 folks, what back end are you using to stream video to your PS3?

I see there are a bunch of options out there.

I am using Rivet, works for both PS3 and Xbox 360. Seems to work well, but does cost 20 bucks or something.

I tryed ps3 media server, but Rivet is much cleaner and better organized.

I use mediatomb from my Linux box. Works great. It's UPnP so you can also stream to VLC on a laptop with it.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread. It seems people have used a few different options, so I'll start a new thread. Thanks for the responses so far.

I dont use xbox live and none of the xbox exclusives have ever really got me excited. Maybe because I'm older and I game less, but I think the mixture of PS3 being a blu ray player and the fact that it can still satisfy my gaming fix when I do get the urge, it seems like the system better suited to me now.

The thing I do like better about the xbox is the controller. Just feels better in the hand IMO.
Sad thing is if not for this problem I would have gotten one long ago. I've mentioned this several times before, but playing Call of Duty 2 on my roomates 360 (may it rest in peace) was so fun because I could listen to my music as a background track. It was among my favorite gaming experiences of all time.

I've actually considered buying a 360 just to play the Call of Duty games this way, but they're so cheaply put together that I am too scared to buy one used (or hell, new for that matter).

What's odd is I was considering a switch to Microsoft next generation, but when I look at my library I realize some of my favorite gaming moments of all time have been in PS3 exclusives (Uncharted 1 & 2, inFamous, LittleBigPlanet etc.).

Couldn't you just play music on your stereo for a similar effect?

No because only one can be played through my speakers at the same time. The key is that both game sounds and music are presented through my home theater speakers.

Picked up my PS3 today at EB/Gamestop. Picking up MLB 10 on Tuesday (real reason I went with PS3 versus traditional blu-ray player and because of 3D coming up). Any shortage I am hearing is state-side and not so much up here.

Watched blu-ray for the first time, tested a couple of movies, some look good, some look amazing (ie: Planet Earth )

The current Jasper version of the Xbox 360 has much lower failure rate than earlier version.

Planet Earth on BluRay is truly amazing. That being said, I am quite impressed with how DVDs are upconverted. Sure, when you're right up close to the screen (changing the disc or something) you can see the difference, but from a reasonable viewing distance everything looks great. Not as good as Blu-Ray, but pretty damn good in its own right.
