Telus TV
I was wondering if anyone is currently set up with Telus TV and if they are is anyone also set up with their HD programming as well?
Ive been thinking of making the switch over to telus.I use to be with Satelite, really enjoyed it but moved into a condo and I had to switch to Shaw and Im not very impressed with it and the pricing.
I have not heard much about telus tv so far, but looking on telus's website the programming and pricing seems pretty good. They even supply you with an HD box...rather than shaw you have to buy for about $300. Any feedback would be appreciated

I have it in Vancouver, and I think its pretty good bang for the buck. However, I have experienced some problems with it and support has ranged from mediocre to atrocious. When everything is working well, it suits my needs much better than any other service because I can pick and choose my channels with a bit more flexability than shaws packages full of channels I don't need.
HD channels look fantastic, and they have a decent selection of HD. Standard def doesn't look very good compared to shaw. They do offer video on demand and pay per view, but I've never used it.
Basically, I would suggest it if you only want select channels and don't need an extensive tv package. If you want a better all around package and you are the type of person who will likely order ppv's, needs things like NHL centre ice, and you actually will be watching a lot of tv, I'd stick with shaw.

Service is god awful. Don't touch Telus TV it with a 10 foot pole, unless you don't mind it being down for weeks at a time. And when I say weeks, I am not exaggerating.
Maybe a couple of years from now, when the kinks are ironed out, it will be a good option. right now, it is all problems and not one of Telus's thousands of employees has any clue how to fix them.
Just righting about it, makes me want to bang my head against the wall.

I still think IPTV is a long way from being perfected. I've seen the TelusTV demo'd at Chinook, and my parents used to have MTS. Watching sports on a big TV really brings out the compression artifacts.
I'd go to Chinook during a football game and have a look before signing up.

I didn't think this warranted a new thread, so I'll just tack it onto here. We just had Telus TV installed today and I have to say, I've never had an installation guy be so thorough. He was incredibly helpful and even helped me hide wires after I was done. I just hope Telus TV has improved. I save a little less than half by switching from Bell to Telus.

Lol. All I know is that the tech did a good job but I haven't had to call their customer service line yet.

That's going to be the real test. As my buddy said last weekend when I asked him "Telus TV would be perfect if Telus wasn't involved." Hopefully they've paid close attention to the legions of angry former Telus customers that ditched them.

FWIW I just switched voice and internet over to Telus- they were great every step of the way regarding customer service.
When you call ask to be switched to the "Shaw Winback Centre." Great service, direct line to English speaking CSRs, and I think they wanted to give me 3 months free of Telus TV.
I still don't think their network can handle the about of bandwidth TV offers, but what do I know?

Well, when I called in to set up all my stuff when I got the flyer in the mail, they were really great. She told me every fee I would pay, told me exactly what would happen. Was really patient when I kinda zonked out in the middle of the conversation because I was trying to make dinner at the same time. All I'm worried about is when I have to call in with a problem. But right now, I admit, I am impressed.

He was probably a contractor and not an actual Telus employee

telus tv sucks. every tv needs a box. they should provide you a modulator so you can use existing coax in your home. but maybe not enough bandwidth..

I just got telusTV and have been impressed with the clarity of it. I think it's standard def too... either that or it's really shatty HD, in which case I will not be happy.
The reason I don't know is that it's a new appt and we are taking over the previous tenants contract and I haven't had time to mess around.
Anyone know what the best package deal there is right now? In August this contract runs out, and I am wanting the best deal. Does Telus (voice, dsl, tv) package compare well with shaw, for example?

That doesn't work because Telus TV only sends the channel that the box request unlike a standard cable network which sends every channel.

Well, yes and no.
The big thing is the hardware that Telus has chosen to use. I'm guessing it's the cheapest that was available. My parents used to have MTS TV in Winnipeg, and they used Motorola boxes that looked like Shaw's 2XXX boxes. You would have 1 box somewhere in the house, and then output via coax to other TVs; I think a total of 3 TVs could use 1 box. Each TV had to use it's own remote; which was UHF.
