No Parking signs and Bylaws...sigh
I was at Brentwood C-Train station today and got a ticket. I'm wondering if I should bother fighting it or getting administrative review because I don't see where in the bylaw any distance from the no-parking sign was mentioned. There was ample room behind me for any vehicle traffic.
I'll do the picture do the explaining:
(the end is not a curb, it extends past the sign another car length).

I'd start parking above the penis...
Seriously though, if the No Parking sign has arrows pointing both ways, it means you can't park on either side of the sign, which it looks like in your picture. And I don't think the "I see others park like that" defense will work. You're the one who got busted. Probably not the first, most likely not the last...

Prottotype- you owe me a new keyboard.
Yeah, I got a parking ticket once after parallel parking into a no-stopping zone. Me and the other 12 cars all got tickets. Sucks, but now I pay a lot closer attention to the signs.
Just pay it soon so you don't get hit with a bigger fine for late payment.

In both of your "illustrations", all cars should have been ticketed. A sign with two arrows will have another sign somewhere with one arrow that denoted that start/end point of the no parking area.

Shouldn't the bylaw actually tell you how many metres from the sign you need to be? Because the other fellows didn't get tickets. There was no sign on the other end (the left side)

Then it would extend all the way to the next intersection. Based on that sign, no one should be parking anywhere on that side of the road.

After replacing the no parking sign with a hand drawn one. Inconsistency will lose you the court case!

If the no parking sign has TWO arrows pointing in opposite directions, the no parking zone extends until the road ends, or you come to a corner, or there is a No parking sign with one arrow. No exceptions.
If the no parking sign has ONE arrow, the direction the arrow points is the no parking zone, you can park on the other side of the sign, unless otherwise posted (handicap zone, loading zone, etc)
If you have to be a certain distance from a road sign, the distance will be posted on the sign (eg) 5 meters on either side of a yeild sign), or failing that, there will be a bylaw number on the sign that you can check.

Okay, I understand why I breached the bylaw, I was just confused as to why the other offenders went unticketed.
It seemed like the traffic guy just thought that I was closest and the other guys were arbitrarily further away and I want to know how he reached that estimation of distance from the sign when it's not offically stated anywhere.

He should have parked between the arrows.

Is it possible the rear end of your vehicle was obstructing traffic more than the others? Say for cars turning around the corner being forced to make a wider turn so they don't clip you?

Hack&Lube is somewhat correct in his questioning. Unless there was another sign to the left of his car only, with No Parking and an arrow pointed to the right only, all the other cars on the street should have been ticketed, as they were all in breach of the No Parking bylaw... according to his masterful artwork.
Were those the same cars parked there when you got there? Maybe they were new cars since your ticketing.
I have a hard time believing that a Parking Controll Officer got lazy and just singled out your car.

True, but I don't have a hard time believing that everyone got ticketed and his car happened to be the last one left there from that ticket round up.
