They've allowed the agent to work with team on a potential deal contract extension. If the Flames can't find better value beyond a pure rental scenario elsewhere, they can now move him as a sign and trade and obviously extract a lot of value from Tampa.
Does an extended Hanifin net you Sergachev coming back the other way? I would be interested in that as it doesn't appear that he has trade protection until next season. It obviously works for TB as they wouldn't be subtracting for this season either.

Just don't much like the offerings Tampa has.

Everyone would like to see Lundell from the Panthers, which would be in line with what Conroy said he wants, young centers. My question is why would Panthers do that, they are first overall and why would they want to make such a big change at this time of the season.
I find these trade deadline deals more of a 3rd or 4th place team would be trying to get better to compete, i.e. Lightning, but why would Panthers, unless they are thinking of Montour leaving in FA this summer.

Gotta figure if they have an extension in place then it's just about dotting i's and crossing t's.

Trade agreed to in principle, just haggling who is paying for Hanifin's travel to Tampa.

Exactly. Lundell isn't happening - why would the panthers want to delete from a strong, surging roster right now? No team in contention is going to weaken their forward group significantly to get better on D during a playoff push.

Flames better be asking for a high price if it's for an extended Hanifin.

Dumb question, but with Hanifin being an American citizen, he can basically grab his gear and go to the other room. No Visa or anything like Tanev had where he missed a game waiting for the paperwork to complete right?
Maybe the Flames can get some carbon credits by not leaving him behind and making him get a private flight.

That would be a hell of a move if you think he comes back well from the injuries. Tampa has almost nothing in terms of prospects but getting a 25 year old left hand shot dman who is locked down for another 7 years would be quite the coup for Conroy.

Not a dumb question, but yes. If you have a Canadian and American passport you can live and work in either country without any headache.

Their package can't possibly be the best the Flames can get here. Especially three days out.

plus probably something else, but I think that would slowly get to the right ballpark. I'd prefer trading him somewhere else, but I'll take trading him with an extension over him being a pure rental.
