No advice on what to do because I was only 15 at the time when I went and I had a terrible time, mainly because I was staying at an all inclusive and since I was 15, I was given a bracelet that said "NO ALCOHOL" on it........I literally watched HBO all night when my brother and other family friend got lit up and the bars and clubs.
Don't get on the bus, and go thru downtime, so far thru that you wind up in third world country hell. My brother and I kinda got lost doing that. Kinda scary.

There may be info in those threads about that.
Rent a car, and go to ruins at Chichen Itza and Tulum.
Xel-ha - marine park - snorkelling
Cozumel - diving

A trip to Chichen Itza was the highlight of my whole trip to Cancun. When I first laid eyes on El Castillo I was awestruck. I still get goosebumps when looking at my pictures of that place. A very historical and powerful place. Tulum would also be something to see. Also when I was there in March last year we rented these little 2 man speedboats that you drive yourself and follow a guide down these winding canals through the jungle. Another highlight, it was spring break and I just ended a 5 year relationship. Special thanks to those Georgia Peaches we met!

One more thing, we got a taxi driver to shuttle us around for a whole night for $20 US. He took us to some "special" bars that there are no tourist pamphlets for.

How were you not able to get alcohol. Mexico has got to have the most laid back drinking laws ever. I'm 18 this year but for the last two years even though my parents didn't have any problem with me drinking the hotel gave me the bracelet that said no alcohol yet i was still able to order drinks from practically any bartender.
As for what to do in cancun. Get juiced and slay some dragons

I agree with this except for thw whole rent a car bit. The cops are so crooked down there that they'll pull you over and give you a ticket for something you didn't do and then make you bribe them before they let you go. Take the tour bus.

My recommendations, get out of Cancun. It is soooooo Americanized and busy and touristy. As some others have mentioned, go over to Cozumel, the safest place in all of Latin and South America. Getting busier now, but still nice.
And DO go to Puerto Morelos, half an hour south of Cancun, lazy little fishing town, so nice and quiet and relaxing. The reef is all protected there so there never will be all of the huge commercialization you see elsewhere along the Riviera Mayan Coast.
Pelicano's is great for seafood, and the seafood is fresh there. If there are winds and the fisherman cant go out in their boats, there is no fish on the menu that night!!!
Hola Asia is very good, Pepe's is mucho fun, all the places are nice.
Great snorkelling, diving by the reef in front, some fishing, but not as good as south of Tulum. Cenotes in the area too so you can dive them as well.
We rented a private villa and stayed at the north end of town for 2 weeks last year, would go back in the blink of an eye.

Thats what I figured, but I would say 90 percent of the bartenders there were bracelt Nazis and checked all the time. In their defence, I did look like I was about 11 years old back then.

Becareful of the water

Don't argue with a cop about a crime you didn't commit. Find out how much it is to bribe them.
