Old Time Hockey
Raleigh: N.C.: Darryl Sutter welcomed Derian
Hatcher today with open arms as the hardnosed defenseman met with the Carolina media this afternoon.
Hatcher who was the eye of the storm during yesterdays FA frenzy that swept through the CPHL had his first chance to meet up with his new Coach and team. “I’ve very excited about being a part of the Hurricanes, when my Martin (Quan Representation) called me up yesterday and told me that Carolina was interested in signing me, I told him to get a deal done. I was amazed when he called back and told me it was a done deal, my agent really delivered for me, this is amazing” said the towering defenseman to the media scrum around him “
Hatcher joins fellow defenceman Mike Rathje and Hall Gill to the newly injected defence as the Carolina Hurricanes continue to revamp their frail blueline from the previous season. “I’m looking forward to playing with this unit for sure, I’ve played with some talent D’s before like Lids in Boston but this core has a reek of old time hockey that’s really going to suit my abilities”
When questioned about he footspeed and whether it would be a problem keeping up to the forwards in the Gretzky Conference
Hatcher responded “well I’m not as quick as I used to be, you’re right on that one, but I think I make up with it with my elbow speed” joked the smiling Defenceman.
