Default Jersey Poll - All Time #44

Did this five years ago, thought it might be interesting again. Always fun to see younger fans and older fans arguing over different generations in a battle.

Will put one up a day whenever possible.

Have fun! and Go old guys!

How it works:

I pick off a key group of players for each jersey. I don't use every name, as that gets tedious and unnecessary (probably go with say 5 unless there are many that wore the same number).

I also don't put up a guy for the number he isn't known for (Iginla shouldn't win #24 for example)

Results:

Imagine what may of happened if we were able to hold on to Niedermayer just a little longer till his brother became a UFA

Went with Rhettzky here. He had some big years at the end of his career and was a big difference maker with changing the attitude of the club, especially in 04. It's no coincidence that the club started to decline when he retired.

Rob Niedermayer was actually a very good player but had arguably his worst two seasons as a Calgary Flame, and considering we traded Val Bure for him (who at the time was one of our best offensive players) along with Jason Wiemer (who sucked) it actually weakened the club. Plus, when we traded him for the spare parts that were Mike Commodore and JF Damphousse it weakened the club yet again. Didn't do much to help us short term or long term. Kinda hate the whole Niedermayer period.

Jonas Hoglund had a great rookie season and then his game fell off the face of the earth. It took him several years in Montreal before he found his game again in Toronto and became quite the productive player for a few years before returning to Sweden. He was actually quite a decent forward, just didn't do enough for the Flames.

Chris Butler was an AHL player on an NHL team, and for some reason was here for more than one season. Not much more to say about it than that.

Warrener. Very few Flames players could clear the front of the net like he could.

Warrener easily. Hoglund I was so excited about - remember him being talked about as the "Next Loob". Just never got even close, even after leaving Calgary (and less than 2 seasons here). Niedermeyer was a disappointment. Butler (though he did improve) was for the most part seen as a whipping boy (justly or not).
