Default Jersey Poll - All Time #19

Did this five years ago, thought it might be interesting again. Always fun to see younger fans and older fans arguing over different generations in a battle.

Will put one up a day whenever possible.

Have fun! and Go old guys!

How it works:

I pick off a key group of players for each jersey. I don't use every name, as that gets tedious and unnecessary (probably go with say 5 unless there are many that wore the same number).

I also don't put up a guy for the number he isn't known for (Iginla shouldn't win #24 for example)

Results:
1 - Roman Turek 67.8% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138746)
2 - Al MacInnis 99% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138764)

No insult to Hunter, but #19 is the worst list of player options we've seen in this. Nobody. Brutal

The Oilers need to hire everything ex Oiler really puts a Calgary fan in a tough spot when it comes to former Flames and employment. I was really hoping Hunter would get the Hitmen job when it came up, but then you don't want to be Edmonton south.

Great guy, and a warrior for the Flames in the day.

Saprykin's OT winner in game 5 is enough for me to make sure he gets 1 vote! The culmination of "The Shift".

Hunter, and it shouldn't even be close. Cue the landslide for Saprykin.

Hunter should win this and his nose should come in second.

I voted Saprykin because he was one of my favorite players in the 04 run (when I started watching it). Hunter should easily win it though.

Timmy Hunter for sure. He played such a big role in The Battle of Alberta back when those games actually meant something.

Hunter was a very important player for this franchise, and a key person in challenging the Oilers.

First of all, wrong thread, but I'm not surprised at all. Lombardi had all the potential in the world but never seemed to put it together. He had crazy skill (except finishing skills), and would show flashes of it, but never really developed a complete game.

Stajan, however, has limited skills (although he's a decent passer) and physicality, but thinks the game at a higher level and does more with his limited talents. To me, that's the better hockey player. Plus, tenure plays into this too.

As for this thread, Hunter needs to take it no questions. He averaged 260 penalty minutes over his 9 seasons with the Flames, despite never playing 82 games. He was a key cog to keeping guys like McDonald, Mullen, Loob, and later Fleury out on the ice without having to be scared to death. He also had one year of 375 PIMs. An enforcer who played 15 seasons in the NHL…hard to do. This is to say nothing of his coaching career where he has turned into a decent assistant coach. He's the best #19, no question in my mind, despite not being a highly skilled player.

Saprykin had some nice moments for the team, but he was a replacement level scoring winger and didn't last long in the NHL.

Surprisingly, Ed Kea was a solid defenseman for the Atlanta Flames, but never once played a game for the Calgary Flames.

We got the worst years of Wayne Primeau, who wasn't a great hockey player to begin with.

None of those three come close to what Hunter contributed to the Calgary Flames.

All respect to Hunter, as a younger Flames fan he is the best that I can recall wearing the #19. I unfortunately never got the chance to watch Hunter and can only really go with the best that I know.

Hunter was such an integral component in beating the Oilers. They used to have their way with Calgary in every area - they would beat us into the ground and intimidate us physically, and they would beat us to the ground on the scoreboard. Hunter helped to change the physical aspect, and it definitely helped pave the way to changing the second. He was simply a hugely underrated catalyst to the evolution of the Flames.

Tim Hunter lead the league in PMs twice as a Flame.
Lead the playoffs in PM once as a Flame
Played 19 playoff games in the winning cup run (notwithstanding the pajama pictures with the cup)
Still holds the Flames all time PM record and single season PM record
Won the Ralph Scurfield Humanitarian Award

Nominated for Clancy and Masterton twice (although I do not know if that was as a Flame or not)

This should be as close to a slam dunk as Joe Mullen
