Ah, under construction. I was just thinking I didn't realize it had actually been built.

It was very close to opening. I was told that they would pretty much be ready to show some screening as early as mid month. Horrible news as Calgary is the only city in Canada without VIP (18+) theaters and I was hoping to see Justice League and Star Wars there in the coming weeks.

Dang, I was really looking forward to the theatre opening. Which was supposed to be this year I believe. It's going to be a major delay now

It was already 2 years behind schedule too. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be open in November 2015.

I wonder what the details are. It's right across a road from the Seton fire station. Seems odd for total destruction to happen so close to one.

That sucks. I guess the one off 17 Ave and Stony (by the new Costco) will probably be open sooner now. Anyone know if that is planned to have anything cool in it? Like the VIP theatre or the family/kids theatre this one was planned to have.

New plan for buildings under construction. Assemble and activate the sprinkler system first, then build around it. Simple solutions, people!

I wonder if it even gets built again. Their insurance payout should check mark all their economic requirements for success.

So what happens to it now? They are too far in not to build it back up again at this point, right? My wife and I have been very excited for this to open as we live in Cranston. It was gonna be the new date night spot!

A good friend of mine was working on the construction of that building and he just got the layoff call this morning.
Looks like hes out of a job until they're ready to re-start construction.

I don't think you know how that works. People burn down failing businesses where they've been bleeding money and are desperate to salvage something. You don't burn down a business before it opens and make money.

Except you need a weather tight and heated building to activate a sprinkler system…. Its not that simple.

Uhhhhh.... depends on how the insurance is purchased. In this case their future earnings and an amount far greater then replacement value was probably insured.

I guess you've never worked in major construction. Every project we do, we factor in a massive over insurance to guarantee, adjusted, economic hurdles are met in case of disaster.
