The emergence of Andersson has made the option of moving Brodie in the summer more palatable and more possible.

If Fantenberg continues to show well, and you can re-sign him at a good price, you can slide Andersson into the top 4 and then make a 3rd pair from Kylington, Valimaki and Fantenberg.

That allows you to move Brodie (good return), and Stone (primarily cap relief) in the off-season to address other needs.

Time for the top players on the team to rise to the occasion already.

Winning this time of year is hard, the flames core needs to learn how to elevate their game.

Go Flames!

Vegas coming in on a back-to-back with the Flames enjoying a weekend off. Excellent opportunity to get back on track and make a statement in front of the home crowd. Looking forward to a solid game!

Thought Fantenberg and Prout were depth for a fingers crossed long drive.

But through three games the Flames are absolutely killing it when he's on the ice, albeit with some pretty heady zone start stats.

Is he a) the answer for the third pairing this year and b) someone to look at signing?
My early impression is that he's much more effective than I anticipated - which matches some of what we heard coming out of LA after the deal.
It's a small sample size, but based on what we've seen i would sure look to bring him back.
And perhaps that unlocks the opportunity to make another move in the off-season - for forward help or goalie help.

I assume moving forward you have Gio, Hanifin, Andersson, Hamonic and Valimaki all part of the team next season. That's five.

You have then Brodie, Kylington, Stone and now Fantenberg in the mix.
Of those, the first 3 could also be possible trade chips, with the first two likely holding some significant value.
You move on of Brodie or Kylington and you still have a quality top 6
Stone moves on, and Fantenberg becomes your new #7.

Re-signing Fantenberg makes it easier to deal from a position of strength.

Agreed. It was nice when the bottom 6 was scoring and winning us games. But there's a reason they are bottom 6 players and that's because they don't have the consistency top 6 players should have. Depth is great to have. But it's unrealistic to expect the bottom 6 to carry the team.

Time for the top line to step it up.

Gaudreau’s production fell off a cliff when his centreman was shut down last year. Both Gaudreau and Monahan look off, and it is going to take a turnaround from both to right this ship.

VGK did not look scary in Wednesday’s game. The Flames will win tonight.

GFG.

Good to see Rittich get the start. Smith has looked good, but I would prefer to see them splitting starts for the time being. At least till the Flames can find a way to start finishing again consistently.

I watched some of the VGK/Nucks game last night...VGK is absolutely and fearlessly *relentless* on the puck, especially in their own end....if the Flames start fumbling around with the puck in the O-zone like they have been recently, they are going to allow a LOT of turnovers and odd-man rushes back. Gotta say that I was highly impressed with the aggression and puck pressure by Vegas in their D-zone. Especially on the PK..they hammer the guys on the blue line mercilessly. (The Flames did the same earlier in the year, but seem to be playing a little more backed-off now.)

I hope the boys come out hard and fast, hit, check and skate their collective butts off, b/c they simply haven't done enough of that the past few games. This opponent is no pushover, tired or not.

I can only hope Neal's brief skate with the team was enough for them to sufficiently absorb his goal scoring prowess.

Would love a Flames win to cheer me up. My pupper is currently at the vet, but she always watches the games with me and is a huge Flames fan.

I like how Fantenberg has played so far but I’d pump the brakes on re-signing him personally. The great contracts at the top of the roster have been dampened by the organization’s penchant for overpaying bottom of the roster of the players. A #7 defenseman should either be a guy from your system or someone on a 1 year deal near the league minimum IMO.

Fantenberg makes $925k. His next contract would be a plus for the Flames as a 6/7

Sportselect Info
Flames Win = 2.05
Vegas Win = 2.45
OT = 3.6
Over 6.5 = 1.95
Under 6.5 = 1.5

They have to bust out of the goal scoring slump tonight as the recipe is nearly perfect: starting goalie you torched in the last start in this building, team is well rested having spent several days at home, opponent on a back-to-back including heading east alongside of DST. I don't want to see the PGT if the Flames don't get it done tonight, but I expect they will stop the skid and come away with a 5-3 win. GFG!
