That is a penalty under Hockey Canada. Not sure about the NHL.

Is this actually a thing? Players throwing cheapshots because OT is winding down and they know it won't matter?

A) I've never seen it myself
B) It's all skilled players on the ice on OT and only 6 of them
C) OT is so intense and plays develop so quickly that the dying seconds usually matter

I don't know, coaches and players would grind that length of OT to a defensive keep away after the first 5 minutes. Keep it the way it is. Making minor penalties 60 seconds would allow successful penalty kills which would allow the game to continue being tied.

I hope they also implement a penalty for purposely knocking off an opponents helmet otherwise they are going to be laying all over the ice from players trying to take an advantage.

It'd be disappointing if they didn't look at addressing the overabundance of goalie interference and offside challenges.

If the helmet rule was in place long ago, "The Shift" never happens.

That should fall under the existing Roughing rule.

That corner clock would have come in handy the other game (against Minnie I think) where Gio and Johnny passed the puck around with time winding down.

Hopefully the corner clock isn't some ugly old digital thing, surly they could do something modern like projecting it on the glass, or something unobtrusive.

Worst part of OT powerplays is when a team kills it off and the play reverts to 4 on 4 until the next whistle. Makes a shootout more likely.

Things I'd like to see:

1) Extended 3 on 3. No shootout.
2) Offside reviews being limited to one minute with half speed replay. If it's not plain and obvious with that, it didn't have an effect on the play.

Things I'm interested in:

1) Challenges being unlimited. First failed challenge, you lose your time out, then each subsequent one is a penalty.
2) Descending players in OT. First few minutes 3on3, next 2on2.

ROW to remain the tie-breaker.

I would rather they extended overtime to 10 minutes of 4 on 4, then the shootout.
The shootout in the regular season is fine, i don't want it to turn into baseball with extra innings forever on a tuesday night.

3-on-3 for 10 minutes would really grind the game down. It would just be keep away for longer than it already is now.

Scoring during a delayed penalty shouldn’t negate the penalty

You take a penalty, then let the other team score on you with the goalie pulled, you should still have to kill that penalty. That’s an even strength goal

Increased scoring and excitement

Great to see them looking to enforce a player needing to leave the ice when their helmet is off. TBH, I'm surprised that isn't the case every time a helmet comes off. "The Shift" was great, and very much doesn't happen the way it did with this new rule... but I don't need to see a player needlessly taken out hoping for something that cool to happen again.

Clocks in the corners will be a big player bonus I'm sure, 10 min OT will be a lot more fun

Would love to see these meetings start talking about cages. It'll take years for people to get on board, but I think we're a few bad injuries away from that finding a way into the NHL anway

Cages? There will be another lockout if you try to get pro hockey players to wear a cage

Hamonic wouldn’t even wear one with a broken face

Cheevers has some cool stories too that don't need to be re-created.

Would love to see these meetings start talking about cages sometime soon though. It'll take years for people to get on board, but I think we're a few bad injuries away from that finding a way into the NHL anway.

Not sure I agree with that. 'Everybody' complains about it but how many fans leave the building at the end of OT and don't watch the shootout? I would guess very few. Based on that you would not conclude shootouts are not popular.
Ii'd love to find a way to reduce them but I cannot see the NHLPA being on board with longer OT unless the league can prove that it would not result in longer games than we currently have. In other words current OT time + shoot out time (total minutes to resolve a game) have to equal the the new OT length before the players would have any incentive to change anything.

If not then there should be. As mentioned by others, this would be an automatic 4 minute penalty in (intentional head contact), there is no reason the NHL should not have this rule too.

I'm fully on board with the mandatory leaving the ice when you lose a helmet. Put it on correctly and this isn't a problem 99.9% of the time.

How on Earth does people sticking around to see if their team wins equate to people liking shootouts? If the game was decided by monkeys flinging feces at each other the fans will still stick around to see who wins.

couldn't it just fall under the umbrella of an 'unsportsmanlike' penalty?

or under the 'you can't do that' penalty call...
