Just got PSV2. Got it to upgrade my GT7 Racing rig set up. It absolutely lives up to the hype. I had a proper wheel setup before, but with VR I can easily cut off an extra few seconds on lap times compared to a flat TV setup. Being able to look into your corners, gauge your speed better as you come into a breaking zone, watch your opponent while trying to keep your line in a corner, all impractical with just a TV screen. I do wish you could customize the HUD a bit more in VR, some cars the speedometer is just to damn small to read when in VR.
Online VR racing is the best online multiplayer gaming experience I've had in my life, hands down.

If you’re already a sim racer with a wheel setup then GT7 and a PSVR2 is such a great option. It really is amazing.
Unfortunately for me I’m just not into racing that much. I ended up selling my PSVR2 because it just became a dust collector.
Personally I find when I have time to game I don’t want to strap a helmet on. I much prefer to just sit on my couch and relax.
It’s pretty puzzling why Sony won’t show any support for the PSVR2. It feels like they were too deep in development on it and just decided to release it despite not having any plans to support it.
Besides GT7, Resident Evil, and Horizon (which although beautiful, wasn’t that much fun) everything you can play on PSVR2 you can also play on a Meta Quest 2 for 250 bucks less plus it’s wireless and has a bunch of productivity apps.
Sony hasn’t even revealed plans for a VR media player. For how much they are charging for the headset, it’s really baffling.

Yeah the Sony support for the VR2 system has been interesting to say the least. I was upgrading my rig so it was either buy multiple monitors or a vr setup and it really became a cost wash, so getting the VR provided more 'value' to me. I totally get the not wanting to sit around with the VR headset on. Not a huge issue with GT7 for me as I mostly do on-line racing which are at set times. This makes my living room more of a waiting area (with all the details on the TV) and when it comes close to race start I just throw on the headset and race, and then leave the headset once the race is done until the next one.
I am curious about the third-party / community support to use the VR headset on PC.

This thread hasn't been bumped in a while, but my wife bought me a Quest 3 for Xmas and I'm really enjoying it.
The last time I tried VR (years ago) all the games were very gimmicky and that's just not the case anymore, most games I've tried are very immersive and well thought out.
Played Golf+ against a buddy the other night and it was thoroughly enjoyable... it was accurate enough to pick up on the fact I've got a natural fade (slice) to my swing and my score after 18 holes was in line with my approximate handicap.
And Half Life Alyx is one of the better gaming experiences I've ever had.
I would highly recommend the Quest 3, great device.

Quest 3 seems like the first high-quality headset for a price that's at least close to what somebody could impulse buy. To me Sony has owned that crown, but only if you already had the $700 system.
The really nice headsets before this required impressive gaming rigs, and the cheaper ones were kinda lame.
It'll be interesting what happens in this space after Apple releases their headset next month. The price keeps it firmly in a particular niche, but maybe in a couple years they can make something a bit more accessible. Seems they aren't going for games, which positions them in a more unique space.

You can set up virtual monitors for work. I work with a couple software engineers who regularly write code in VR. You can also do some virtual exercise classes or social experiences (movies, chats, animations/flights) with friends. Personally, I'm on the edge between VR being dumb and thinking it would be fun to watch a Flames game in VR with some friends or learn to play guitar in XR.
I'm thinking of getting a Quest3. A friend who works in the space told me that he Apple headset is better in every way but I don't want to spend that much money.

Apparently the Quest 3 allows you to virtually renovate your house somehow. The forward facing cameras scan the room and let you add/remove furniture, change/paint walls etc etc.
Also overheard a buddy telling people that there's some interactive porn thing where you can put the headset on and it changes your the person you're getting freaky with. Who knows, maybe you're sick of your wife and you can swap her out on the headset?

I haven't tried VR since I had a bad bout of vertigo years ago.. I mean I can't really play a FPS with an ultrawide monitor without getting some disorientation so I figure VR be worse.

The Vision Pro seems to do some neat things, but not nearly enough to justify such an insane price tag. And there are some really significant drawbacks too, like the baffling decision to make the battery external
I got mine many years ago at London Drugs, was surprised at the time too. I mean, they had a decent electronics section, just never would have thought about it if it didn't come up in a google search
You can get much much better hardware for cheaper with direct retailers these days though, thrustmaster and logitech have fallen about 2 decades behind in that area, at least when it comes to flight controls. I just got some VKB stuff in December and it's awesome

Funny enough after I retweeted that, a friend of mine reached out to say his team actually made that video. It's a proof of concept and they did it by taping a Quest Pro controller to the vacuum for tracking. Technically we're pretty close to being able to do this now with AI vision getting so good.

Gah. This seems to confirm most of my concerns. As he says at the end, Goggle VR/AR might just not be it. When the PSVR came out I became a massive VR fanboy, assuming the problems we were seeing would be solved with some tech upgrades. Coming up on a decade later and some very impressive tech advances, and we're still dealing with nausea and fuzzy edges. When they announced the price I was shocked, but figured if they solve all the issues it might make sense. Doesn't seem like they solved the issues though. As good as anyone has done so far, but things remain unsolved.
My biggest question for any of these non-gaming things is can it be worn comfortably for portions of a work day... and it seems like the answer is still that you'd have to be an actual freak to do it.
The movie stuff sounds very cool, and if I was a frequent flyer or stuck in a tiny Japanese apartment or dorm room for a lot of the time, it'd be a no brainer. Those are odd use cases though.
