I think this is an unfortunate side effect of the medicority we, as flames fans, have endured for the majority of the franchise's existence.
We've had so few exciting seasons that many have begun looking to trades and drafting as sources of excitement.
Now that the team is finally started to look like it could be a contender with a good young core, people are having trouble breaking away from the "trades and draft = excitement" mentality.

One of many who is too boring; thinks that there should be rules regarding grammar in custom user titles, and also makes moderators wonder if there is a charachter limit here. I mean come on- you would think that would be a limitation in the software
|
Wait... people still follow Eklund? Didn't his 15 minutes of fame end over a decade ago?

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Let's look at Eklund at face value
He posts, what, 3 rumors a day on average?
So, maybe 20 a week?
80 a month?
900+ a year?
How many does he get right?
He might guess correctly on 1 or 2?
Think about that.
How many do McKenzie or Friedman posts a month? 4?

Frolik...oh, and a lot of draft picks.
Retained salary undoubtedly as well.

Reading Eklund is like playing the lottery.
You know you're not going to win, but the enjoyment comes from the few minutes of daydreaming about what would happen if you did.
*I should clarify that I don't read him outside of what gets posted in here, but what gets posted doesn't bother me.

Do you play the lottery 900 times a year?
And I get what you're saying. But I think a lot of people genuinely believe there is fire to the smoke Eklund's blowing. There isn't.

Flames easily and quickly. Let’s not get a center that is 7 years older and makes $4M per season more

I don't, but I imagine people who read Eklund are generally only interested in rumors about their own team, so its more like playing the lottery every two weeks
If there are multiple rumors regarding something, in addition to whatever Eklund posts, I can see people believing there is fire, but in general I agree that Eklund alone is 95% BS.

it's so beautiful. Push this team into that next tier, Tree.
|
This would be so terrible. Not even close to being a contender this year and we spend all futures on 2 pending free agents the team likely couldn’t keep. Pageau is screaming overpay right now.

If the standings look the same in mid January, Poile is a gm who is unafraid of bold moves:
JG + Monahan + Janko for Johansen + Forsberg + future(s)

You forgot the part directly before, where I said "starting to look like..."
Progression is certainly not always linear.
Continue to speak in hyperbole if you want. I see a team that could be fantastic, but it's really struggling with consistency.
This core is the best that I can ever truly remember (I was 4 when we won the cup, so I don't count that as a memory)

Still think making a play for Hall is the way to go as long as you can sign him. 1st overall pick, hart trophy, and elite skill.
Hall - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Gaudreau - Monahan - Bennett
Lucic - Ryan - Dube
Mangiapane -Backlund - Czarnik
Gives everyone easier match ups and creates better center depth. On the PP you can roll:
Hall - Lindholm/Monahan- Tkachuk
Gaudreau - Giordano

I like the look of those lines with Hall added.
Jankowski+Frolik+Valimaki+1st for signed Hall
Flames give up the defensive piece the Devils need. If the deal happens sooner than later the Devils can work to rebuild Frolik’s value to perhaps get them a third at the deadline. Jankowski is a declining asset but could get back to his 15 goal and 35 pt pace he has showed in the past.
