That quote is being taken out of context here. Savage was talking about the capacity market that was scrapped, not the rate-cap (which was a byproduct of the potential capacity market).

I believe this is the quote they are discussing:
Quote:
"We heard overwhelmingly that the way to keep electricity prices low is with an energy-only market, that that was by far the preferred market for affordability, for reliability, and to attract investment," Savage said.

She said the province has attracted "more than $2 billion investment in electricity," including a major solar-energy project near Calgary, since the UCP government announced in July that Alberta would remain an energy-only market.
I'm not advocating one way or another, simply clarifying.

It's actually pretty much a complete positive to anyone on fixed rate electricity prices. Now their taxes aren't going to subsidize people who are 'gambling' on their electricity prices.

I was gambling on floating as there was a 6.8 cap and on good months I could be charged under 6 so there was a decent reward with limited risk due to the cap. The cap saved me a couple bucks here and there when prices were high, roughly 6 bucks on my bill in August 2018 being the biggest - which you suckers paid for. But I still would have been better off just going with a fixed rate in 2019.

Right now you can still get sub 6 fixed rates. 5.89 per kWh on a 2 year term with EPCOR and 5.89 on a 1 year term with ENMAX. So if the rate-cap removal is worrisome to you, just switch to fixed.

Thanks for that. I actually live in a condo and pay a minor amount per month for power, and I just pay it and not care. Admittedly, I'm not caught up or that knowledgeable of the electricity industry, so all opinions on this subject I read with interest.

And to think Calgary-Elbow and Alberta could have had Greg Clark instead.

Good lord, this goofball is in a position of power. I hoped he was just half cut and having a really bad day a few weeks ago.

Nope, turns out he is just an absolute partisan, pandering and petty moron. I love how I would trust a meth addicted schizophrenic dog to act in the best interest of Albertans more than our 'Minister' of Justice.

The guy is disgraceful, and no one with half a brain should be supporting this kind of behaviour in politics. This is Alberta for god sakes, not the entire US. We really are in this together, and with an attitude like his, it is clear he doesn't have the mental capacity to act in good faith for ALL Albertans.
If you voted for this guy, I'm sorry, you were dupped. Stand up to your party and do something about it, because this is a terrible road for our province to be going down.

Calgary-Elbow is my riding, and I wanted Greg Clark back. I am not happy about having this dickwhistle representing us.

Although... he's griping about 'the left' so I presume he's only representing Albertans who are on the right side of the political spectrum... which is not the job he was elected to do, but rather to represent ALL Albertans.

Thanks for proving yourself just another partisan hack, Doug. "The Honourable", my arse.

Credit rating downgrade! Odd that the posters who were so critical of the NDP for these downgrades are so silent. (Just kidding!)

UCP, of course, blames the previous government, despite the downgrade taking their budget into full account.

Sounds like Kenney will be as popular as Redford was. Or worse, deservedly.

Why does the right hate Nenshi so much? He seems to be a fiscal conservative with fairly moderate social views. Can they not stand any ounce of progressiveness? Is it part of a strategy to find common enemies and a mayor is an easy target? Is it racism? Seriously Nenshi is the type of guy the conservatives should be courting as a future leader who can win the centre, but instead they drive him away. I don’t get it.

In Calgary-Elbow as well, did not vote for him and certainly miss Greg Clark (who had my vote)

I am starting to wonder...

Did he leave Dentons for a career in politics?
Or was he pushed?

You might enjoy reading:
Scott Luft (Cold Air Online - Ontario is a pretty complex market and he breaks it down well).
Meredith Angwin (discusses the different types of markets very well).
Gail Tverberg just because everyone should
