Default Apple Scrapping iTunes?

Rolling Stone and Forbes reporting Apple will announce the demise of iTunes next week.

I need to know if this will affect how I make playlists and use Match (my library in the cloud) in the new Music platform.

Anyone know what Music will look like?

What's iTunes?

I'm still using CD's and making compilation discs for my vehicle

I am kind of curious why this will mean too. Kind of happy? I hated how the sync’ing worked. I am sure it was natural for some people to use, but I wish it was closer to Windows Explorer and just drag and drop media files. I would occasionally sync and lose songs because they weren’t on the computer that I had originally put the music on.

Syncing is terrible. I’ve had it disabled in every apple device I’ve had since the first time it ruined everything.

I wonder what this means for iTunes libraries? I'm old school too. I burn cds from iTunes and the Google Play. Maybe this will mean more sites like the old Limewire gaining prominence.

I'm guessing the functionality will remain largely the same, but there will be separate (and hopefully optimized) apps for music, podcasts, tv, etc. But it's Apple so there's no telling how badly they can screw it up.

I just renewed my Match subscription. I assume it will still work in new system.

Music is already the app on my iPad and iPhone. My desktop computer is iTunes.

A lot of our produced materials at CJSW are in iTunes, and I think they might be nervous how this will work.

I haven't really used Itunes in forever, I use spotify and I'm pretty happy with it.

At some point it turned into a one-way transfer only. If they would have let you sync your phone or iPod back to your computer, I would have used iTunes more.

Presently, iTunes only runs on one computer and I have to keep my entire inventory of music on it, just in case I need to add a couple of new songs to the phone from some CDs.

It sucks that they locked that up so tight. There used to be some programs you could use outside of iTunes to handle your library.

Many years ago, iTunes was the biggest reason why I switched from iphone to android. Kind of funny that it took Apple this long to figure out that itunes sucks.

So I have an iPod but no other Apple products. What can I do to add more songs to it?

I use Mediamonkey for all music, it's pretty good at syncing and handling what I need. I hated iTunes, but it took awhile to find a good alternative.

I use streaming now (Spotify) for new music but I still have a massive digital collection I keep organized in Itunes and transfer to my phone. I hope there's an easy alternative to keep managing and using that collection.

There’s an extremely easy solution to this for all of us iTunes users. Just keep using the program that is already currently installed.

Use the ap Music. Which is what the article is about. I haven’t opened iTunes in at least 2 years. It’s obsolete.

This really isn’t going to affect Apple iTunes/music users. Just a different ap.

They aren’t removing music entirely.

Thanks. I did see that but I was hoping to find a more pay-as-you-go app. I'm a light user and any of the subscription based apps aren't worth it to me. I would only add a handful of songs a year. I guess people like me is what iTunes was trying to eliminate.

Right, I’m just saying that you won’t lose the music you have purchased. You can use the Music app to see your purchased music. You don’t necessarily need a subscription to Apple Music. So maybe you can’t add more individually anymore...

The new standalone Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Podcasts applications are expected to launch in September alongside a new iPhone. Readers can take comfort in knowing that you will still be able to store and organize local files in the new music app.

As long as the new music app can read my iTunes library and playlists and add them in, I don't particularly care what it does otherwise. I'd rather not lose the setup I've been using for a very long time.
