Flames WCQF-G5: (W2) Colorado -3 @ (P1) Calgary –1 ~ 8:00pm (CBC, SN, NBCSN, TVAS)

Welcome to Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarter Finals

Projected starters, not confirmed at the time of posting https://leftwinglock.com/starting-goalies:
Calgary Flames – Mike Smith
Colorado Avalanche – Philipp Grubauer
The Flames are in a but of a hole but if there's any team in these playoffs that can come back and win three in a row it's Calgary.

A friend of mine sent me two playoff towels which arrived in the mail yesterday. Perhaps that's a good sign.

Same effort as game 4 and they should be fine. Just a little less Neal will do the trick.

Will be interesting to see the lineup. I understand the "you gotta go with the guys who brung ya"...but so far they haven't done the deed. So can see some changes could help. Not sure that adding small fast players will do the trick though (Z / Dube).

Everyone on the team needs to hit, be hit, and do so constantly...and that includes JG. Faster play...and THAT includes JG. Too much dangling, not enough moving of the puck.

When JG moves the puck quickly, Monahan gets open more often. When Johnny dangles too much he either gives it away, loses it, or someone's on Monny to intercept or interfere. Gotta be smarter, faster and with a sense of desperation (if you're not desperate today, when WOULD you be????).

We will learn a lot about this group of players today. Hope it's good.

GFG!!

First actual must win. Change the game plan, take it to them, win.

Top line has to show up. About as simple as that. If they can’t put up points the series is over either tonight or next game. Strange for a line that racked up so many points all year to be so ice cold and ineffective but they really are the key. Can only watch and hope for the best.

They played well in decent stretches on Game 4. They just need to keep that gap control and push quick transitions, and they'll be okay. Also need to manage their game when the ice starts to tilt in the Avs favor. They haven't found a solution for the tilting ice at all. No panic!!

Steady as she goes, no changes to the forward lines is what I expect Peters to do. That being said it is a must win, so I desperately hope he tries something different and maybe inserts a bit of speed into the forward ranks.

Final game of the season. If these guys don’t believe in themselves, why should I?

At this point, it would be hard to disappoint me, so I guess that's good. Hoping for a good result.

Not really as simple as that.

Our top 4 defense has been overwhelmed and the 3M line has decisively lost their matchups so far.

Basically everybody except the fourth line needs to be better.

Peters needs to do one thing, and one thing only:

Kick a garbage can.

How about throwing a stick? Or beers on a train?

On a more serious note, it was worrying to me how much the Flames were sitting back with the lead last night in the third. Every time they were just trying to clear the defensive zone rather than make plays. The best defense is holding the puck in the O-zone and when they were successful during the regular season they kept attacking no matter the score. Sure it's tougher in the playoffs but you can't just sit back, that's a recipe to let the other team tie the game up.

While they have done this to themselves, I still believe they can rectify the situation!

Maybe move Bennett up to the top line to #### some #### up?

It would give the Avs something else to consider beyond containing Gaudreau.
