What's Lomberg's game like?

Maybe Brouwer got hurt last game?

We have a super young core that is a few pieces away. It would be different if the core was in the later stages of their career. I am okay with trading picks for proven guys at this time. Would rather have a guy like Pacioretty than the majority of Flames first round picks selected after Top 10.

I hope they eventually try:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Bennett-Jankowski-Tkachuk
Brouwer-Backlund-Frolik
Hathaway-Stajan-Lomberg/Mangiapane
send Lazar down to minors

I guess parts of it were perhaps disappointing. But, you know...Searn Mernerhernds.

Probably a pat on the back for the hard work, gets a nice little extra money I guess even if he doesn't dress for a game.

When it comes to first round picks and the Flames anything outside of the lottery has been for the most part been a graveyard so the Hamonic trade for instance isn't so bad if the Flames pick ends up in the area of 20-30 seeing this team usually misses badly on those picks. That said regardless of how good your team is if you trade away too many picks it will come back to bite you in the end as you need continuous cycles of young talent displacing higher paid veteran players.

Ryan Lomberg highlight package (turn down the volume unless you want Stockton's announcer yelling out of your speaker):

YouTube also has several fight clips if you're so inclined...

I definitely agree with that. Although I haven't done my complete research on this, for the Calgary Flames: draft picks in the first 2 rounds (excluding top 10 picks) have had equal impact on this roster as draft picks made in the 3rd round and beyond.

Maybe with the amount of scouting, a 2nd round vs 4th round pick doesn't make too much of a difference. As long as you make a few picks each year.

I think Lomberg is very similar to Byron. Time to give him a look. I sense more than one move coming soon

Lomberg is Tkachuk without the skill at least every time we've seen him in camp he's been like that. He's a pain to play against.

Could be an Antoine Roussel type guy in the NHL although Roussel gets 12-15 goals a year which may be a bit rich for Lomberg.

Speaking of a young core - I think there's potential for us to have a young energy line that could be around for years.

Lomberg - Lazar - Hathaway

Lazar seemingly doesn't have the ability to finish, but he does have the speed and energy to attack. What he's bringing to the Flames right now could be a ton of fun to watch with 2 wrecking balls on his line. That with the motors of Lomberg and Hathaway that line would be a nightmare.

Yeah not sure who I was thinking of. I was thought he was more of a scrapper.

I was more incorrect. He fights a lot, especially for a guy his size. The 6 fights was last year alone. He also had one in the preseason with the Flames. I suppose with his gritty style he has to answer the bell.

Not to derail but yeah that was a tin mine of a draft. Consider that we had Poirier, Klimchuk and Petan on our radar with our later firsts. Klimchuk May still pan out but I’d say odds are long for Poirier. Would we be better off with Petan instead of Poirier? Probably. But odds of Petan making the team with Johnny in lineup would probably be long.

This team would be lost without Backlund and Jankowski. 2 late first round picks.

Well yeah but I'll take the odds of trading the pick when you are hitting on the rate of one per decade.

Is Jordan Tootoo a good comparison for Lomberg?
