I'm on the fence. Gonna stick with 'no' for now.

Darryl Sutter is likely just a better hockey coach than Gulutzan. Is he interested in coaching this team?

I am not firing GG just for the sake of firing him. Would love to know what he has been doing to address the teams lack of consistency and what he thinks about the level of commitment of the current players.

Either way he's gonna get fired at the end of the season. Lots of candidates are going to available.

I lean towards yes, but only if the permanent replacement isn’t one of the assistants.

Likewise still no.

He is a players coach rather than disciplinarian which favors the long game.
My sense is that he has not lost the room which would be certain firing. He should have many chips to cash in with the players still.

I put more blame on the players than the system or style of play/coaching. Although not immediate he has eventually made most if not all the changes CP has been clamoring for all season.

A major streak in Jan-Feb to get us 10 games above 500 is still very possible. BT will give him that leash.

I was on the No side all season. Until the Hab's game.

Three main reasons i think it is time.

1) The team never seems to step up for Rivalry games at home. They no-show to those games. That is motivation

2) The stubborness to stick with the system. Montreal heavily scouted the Flames and cut off all the cross-grain passes the Flames like to make with their system. At that point they should have unchained the defense to activate more and open up the ice better.

3) Even when the Flames greatly outplay their opponent the game is typically close. The offense seems to be sputtering even with good possession metrics.

I do think that Dave Cameron should go. The PP is absolutely anemic and has cost the Flames 6-8 points in the standings IMO.

Looking at the schedule we could also lose next 5 and its curtains on the season...the team should not have underperformed the way they did in the first half of the year in Gulutzans 2nd year. There wasn't enough turnover to justify a learning curve. This team is as inconsistent as they come. They could get hot at exactly the right time and ride that for a few weeks. However it is way more likely they go on a hot run at some point in the next 3 months and either back into the playoffs or miss entirely.

Can the Flames afford to have multiple coaches on the payroll that aren't actually coaching?

I mean, Ken King has been pretty clear that they aren't earning any money at all.

Absolutely, but it should've been done a long time ago. At this point the damage has been done IMO.

When the coach's salary is a drop in the bucket of the collective owners' worth, can they afford to drive the team into the ground by spending to the cap, and having a struggler like Gulutzen running the show?

Hey guys, let's waste another year of Brodie's team friendly contract with a mediocre coach that full on refuses to try something else, something that worked like a charm in the past.

At this point, I can't believe that the owners aren't posting this exact same poll on their gold-shimmering website.

Flames need to probably go 4-1-1 in their next 6 just to stay in the playoff hunt, and I don't believe Gulutzan is able to lead this team to that kind of a record given the ups and downs of this season.

I mean, it would be totally a Flames thing to do to beat LA and Anaheim on the away back-to-backs and restore hope to CP, then follow that up by laying eggs against all of Chicago, Anaheim and LA in the Dome in a row leading to the crowds baying for his head on a stick.

Ideally with their current record you would prefer them to stay the course but seeing it’s been 1.5 season of largely inconsistent hockey there’s really no indication that this will turn around in time to make the playoffs. If making the playoffs is the goal for this organization the sooner he’s fired the better but they need to get the next hire right because this organization has been terrible at finding the right coach for their teams.

I remain unconvinced that the Flames owners will ever spend a dollar of their own money ever again. Edwards will soon be the new Melnyk/Wirtz.
