Default National Post - Jarome Iginla remains unsigned by choice

http://nationalpost.com/sports/hocke...ing-camps-loom

"While player agent Don Meehan said Iginla has received offers in the off-season...teams are not exactly lining up to sign a player who looked a step or two slower last season. If Edmonton or Calgary or Pittsburgh or another team is interested in Iginla, they probably want to see what they have internally with their younger players first before reaching out to a past-his-prime veteran."

I hope Iggy ends up in Calgary, Pittsburgh, or Nashville. I'll happily cheer for him with any one of those teams.

Seems like Iggy and Jagr are in the same boat. At least one should get signed during the training camp period. I think it's silly for iggy to turn any team down but it's his choice.

Well, he doesn't 'have' to play - he's made nearly $100M over his career.

I don't want Iggy taking any offer that comes his way just to hang around an extra year.

This says to me that he wants to play close to home.

That is one way of describing why Jarome Iginla remains without a contract heading into training camp. As a 40-year-old free agent, he isn’t looking to sign with just anyone. He’s got a wish list of wants that likely includes playing meaningful minutes on a Stanley Cup-contending team, in a city that makes sense for his family.

I guess he'll wait until the perfect opportunity presents itself (if ever). It may mean he plays less that 82 games this season, likely signing a month or so into the season.

Is there anything stopping him from being unsigned until trade deadline day and then giving himself away for a pittance to the best cup contender?

Not that his choices for contenders last few years have been great....

NYR, NJD and NYI are pretty close to Boston - a 30 minute flight or so (though like going to Edmonton, there's a lot more time travelling to and dealing with the airport) or a 3-4 hour drive. There's a great train, the Acela Express, that runs between NY and Boston, with a lot of comfort available. Philly and Washington are not much farther.

Barely any team was interested in him last trade deadline when he was in game shape. No team is going to be interested in him when he's not in game shape

Nothing stopping it, no. Other than he would have been sitting on the sidelines and not be in NHL shape. Pretty tough to plug a guy like that into the lineup during the stretch drive I think. Very doubtful he would garner any interest at that point.

Jarome Iginla will sign here when the arena deal of 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 is completed.

1+3+1+3+1+3 = 12.

Hopefully we can bring him home before the team moves to Seattle. Would love to see him retire as a Calgary Flame.

I could see him deciding to play in the Olympics with an eye towards signing with a contender just before the trade deadline.

The gold medal game is February 24 and the deadline is the 26th. I don't believe there would be any restrictions on him doing that.

Invisiginla?? Really?

1st in GP: 1219
1st in Goals: 525
1st in Points: 1095
1st in ES Goals: 351
1st in PP Goals: 161
1st in GWG: 83
1st in Shots: 3992

I get people don't want him back; but let's not forget who this guy was for Calgary and how a cup was robbed from him.
