What a ridiculous trade. Trades are made for mainly cap reasons and future outlook. Thatís what the Flames did.

If the Canes make it to the cup final this year itís not because of Dougie Hamilton. It will be because of the moral of the team. Just look at the Flames in 2004, the Flyers in 2010, the Knights in 2018. The list goes on and on. And, give lots and lots of credit to RB. Heís coached everything out of the Canes.

CP tends to overlook the Canes also dispatched Jeff Skinner to Buffalo for nothing last summer.

Getting hot at the right time, right mix, not coaching, hell of a thing. If we went down the Canes traditional depth chart we're going to find a lot of holes. Petr Mrazek? Curtis McElhinney? That's their goalies??

Rod the Bod's doing an incredible job.

^^ getting hot at the right time is a big consideration...

all one needs to do is look back on Calgary's 2004 run... looking back, its a 6th place team that went into the playoffs hot and was picked as a team "no one wants to play in round 1"

Calgary rode kipper and iggy, along with role players that exceeded their limitations, all the way to the stanley cup...

but it wasn't the beginning of a dynasty...it was the capturing lightning in a bottle.

it remains to be seen what the canes are.

Yep Ferland and his 3 games played and 0 points is the difference in the outcomes for these two teams......

Gio made him look better than he was because Gio basically carried that pairing in their own zone.

Hamilton is a gifted offensive defenseman who struggles in his own zone. It was pretty clear to many of us while he was here. If you donít believe me go look up my thoughts and others immediately following last season but before the Hamilton trade.

This narrative that Hamilton is a number 1 defenseman and is leading the Hurricanes to playoff success is ridiculous.

He's only 4th in ice time among their defensemen. He has 7 points in 11 games which is good, but Slavin has 11 points in 11 games while Faulk and Pesce also have 6 points.

It's not like Hamilton is dominating. He's merely a complimentary piece for a team on a Cinderella run.

You watch that Hurricanes team play and its almost a mirror image of the Flames, which shouldn't be surprising since Peters DNA is ingrained in both teams.

If the Flames drew anyone except Mackinnion in the first round, they could very well be in the Conference finals. For whatever reason, this team just panics when there is a single dominant high skilled speedster on the opposition (see Mackinnon and McDavid) and they forget how to play hockey, it's like their kryptonite.

Calgary played so poorly in all aspects of the game (other than goaltending) they would have likely lost to every team in the playoffs.

And Colorado doesn't have a single high skilled speedster, Rantanen is also excellent.

I watch the Canes. People saying Hamilton has not contributed are just delusional and salty that he is getting farther than any Flames team in how many years? And all it takes is to leave to a team that is in cap basement, LOL. The absurdity of the post is there because the whole situation is absurd. And the logical take a lot of people here have is that RB'A is a really good coach. What does that say about Peters than? Flames fleeced the Canes it that trade as many of you claim, but the difference in coaching has overturned that? Isn't that even more absurd?

The Flames ####ed up in the 1st round, but conclusions about this trade over a Cinderella story are a bit tilted

Hamilton is a good Defenceman, and Hanifin is a 21 year old who played terribly

Ferland has played 3 games, and Lindholm was a part of a 1st line that we know needs to give more

Rob is a legend in Carolina, and Peter's didn't get his team together in the Playoffs

It's a story of Carolina punching out of their weight class, and a Calgary self-destruction and disappointment. Its a reach to draw any conclusions

To me if there is one take away from this playoffs, its that anything can happen if a team is hot at the right time. So just build a cap friendly core that will get you to the dance as many times as possible over the next 8 years. dont sign bloated FA contracts, dont trade draft picks at the deadline for rentals so you have a stream of cheap good young players to fill the holes. seems the young guys were our best playoff players anyways.
