Flames sign KHL free agent defenceman Alexander Yelesin to a 2 year ELC
Looks like another that russianflame's source got right.
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
That “mystery defenceman” is likely Alexander Yelesin, a right-shot from KHL Lokomotiv. The Flames were one of several teams pursuing him
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Couple takeaways from Bill Peters today:
-in his opinion, Monahan isn’t healthy enough to go to Worlds but it’s not up to him.
-team didn’t deal with momentum well enough vs. Colorado.
-team has more depth coming, including a d-man they’ve signed but not announced. #Flames

Treliving just said that Peters is really excited about this unannounced European signing.
"Coming over in the prime of his career".

Should also be looking at Alexander Yelesin, one of the toughest KHL Ds. He's a good skater, RH, sees the ice well and throws hit after hit.

Sounds like the Leafs thought they had him for sure.

Maybe Calgary will be an unexpected destination for some Russian UFA's this Summer?

Nothing wrong with getting tougher on the back end. The slapshot can't hurt either.

Looks like an upgrade on Prout. With Brodie likely gone, team is thin on RD.

Hard right handed shot that can skate and likes to hit?
Sounds like the prototypical dman with the right handed bonus. Hopefully he's effective next season to make it a great signing.
Would be a good supplement for moving on from Brodie if he's traded.

I really have to say, I love Trelivings new obsession with D depth. It's a smart move

Wait, he fought Nail Yakupov? That's pretty funny.

I believe it will be a 2 year according to the below rule
Edit: Adding that he turned 23 on Feb 7, 2019.
"Players younger than 25 as of Sept. 15 in the calendar year their first NHL contract is signed are
subject to the terms of Article 9 of the CBA and must sign an entry-level contract (ELC). This means
the amount of salary and team-paid performance bonuses is capped, depending on his draft year or
the year he signs. The length of the ELC is also specified based on the player's age.
AGE LENGTH
18-21 3 years
22-23 2 years
24 1 year
25+ No Restriction *
* A one-year entry-level restriction applies to drafted players from Europe aged 25 to 27."

So does Fantenberg get re-signed? Or was he just trade deadline depth? UFA.

Pretty much cements the fact that we're moving on from Brodie.
