My plan is to build about 6 months from now with a 3080, so it doesn't affect me personally but holy cow would I be mad if I was trying to get my hands on a 3000 level card right now.
What a disaster.

3060's don't exist yet, I hope you or the seller abbreviated the 3060ti which is available and just a 3070 with some cores disabled.
Yeah
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 TI
I hadn't heard of the stockx site until this week. It works like a stock exchange where people put in bid's and asks. The seller sends to stockx for verification before being paid and they ship it out. I guess it started as a collectible sneaker marketplace but seems to have a pretty solid reputation, and seems less dodgy than navigating ebay.

Middleman I guess? Prices seem to settle on are around retail+50%. The ebay and amazon scalpers all seem to be around 200% retail. The amount of effort to get these things at retail is worth a hundred or two to me, I guess. I suppose I'm supporting the scalpers and keeping the cycle going though.
Plus, there really aren't any good options for even 1660 tis out there to buy right now.

I didn't even realise there was a problem until I started a "build" for a new high end gamer PC on memory express website.
Cool Case - check
I9-cpu - check
Asus motherboard - check
128g Corsair ram - check
Video card - "out of stock" like as in everyone of them that mattered-WHAT?
/Close online quote and check other sites...nothing!

Seriously. If there's none of the damn things to sell, push back release. So stupid
You can also buy legit OEM licenses online for like $50. Problem is if it gives you crap after installation you have to touch base with MS by phone. They usually just wave their wand and authorize it however.
They're even cheaper on sites like KeysOff but those sites are a bit more sketchy.
As noted, they are mostly OEM/Bulk Volume keys that are only supposed to ship with prebuilt units, but if the key is legit it should activate. MS may as noted have to confirm it in some cases.
Kinguin also has an open return policy, which is rare for most key sites.

Are you 100% Intel or would you consider AMD? You could do a Ryzen 5 3600 (non-X) and a B550 board and you'd be able to move to a Ryzen 5000 series later on and get a huge uplift in performance.
I'm not married to Intel at all. I previously had an Athlon a64 back in 2004 ish.
My current PC is Intel so was leaning that way.
Is something like this a good deal? I'm starting to cool off on the idea of a self build as it's not easy to find a video card at the moment.
Spoiler!

There is no current reason to build an Intel system over AMD unless you need it for a specific application. Right now they run hotter, more expensive, more power hungry, and slower both in gaming and productivity.
Yea the video card problem is both a bitcoin issue, Covid production supply issues, and the Covid 50%+ increase in gaming. If you need something sooner and can get a pre-built, it might be the only way to get a video card.

At this stage, after a week of internal debate, I'm just shelving the PC upgrade idea. I'll do it in a few months, or something. The games I want to play aren't going anywhere. Instead of the $700 I was going to spend on upgrades, I spent $150 on a gamecube, three controllers and a memory card. That should tide me over for a few months.

Who makes reasonably priced AMD PCs? The only one I've found is Corsair and its a lot more than I was planning on paying.
Probably should have jumped on the Dell G5 that was 40% off. I got 10 years out of my last one.

Nvidia cut off Hardware Unboxing from receiving and reviewing their hardware because they were critical of Nvidia and disagreed with a certain choice they're making re Raytracing vs rasterization. But it wasn't just that they did this, but also the incredibly stupid e-mail sent to Hardware Unboxing by the head of global PR for GeForce.
Cross linking with video game thread. This is pretty damn gross.
Holy, nvidia really are the baddies?
PR rep goes off the deep end.
So Nvidia is truly evil if this was supported by Jensen. If it wasn't and it was just the Brian, Director of Global PR's, decision, he should be fired immediately for this incident for not understanding the Streisand effect and being bad at his PR job. I'm pretty sure Brian will be the fall guy here eventually.
