Wow, I can't believe they got Kacey Musgraves! That is an unreal lineup for a folk fest. Hopefully we will see some carry over for Calgary

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Sharon Van Etten, Sheila E among first acts announced for Calgary folk fest

Quote:
Perhaps ramping up the excitement for the 40th anniversary event, the Calgary Folk Music Festival has begun its tradition of slowly revealing some of the artists for its upcoming summer event by dropping five stellar acts that will be gracing the Prince’s Island stages come July 25 – 28.
Those acts are: soulful Americana R&B act Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats; enchanting and beautifully moody alt-folk siren Sharon Van Etten; famed percussionist, actress and Prince protege Sheila E; Grammy-winning country veterans Asleep At the Wheel; and Brooklyn-born indie poppers Lucius, who are led by matching frontwomen Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig.

Maybe I'm out of the loop now, but that chasing summer lineup looks fairly mediocre.

Maybe better than Coachella? Pretty poor though, certainly not worth getting gouged like you know is inevitable.

I'm bumping this thread because Ghost has announced they are playing in the Corral on Tuesday Sept. 24. I'm super excited about this one and it's one of those rare occurrences where they are skipping Edmonton for Calgary (maybe they know something is in the water?).

Celebrated Square Root Day

How sad have these Stampede roundups gotten? We used to have two (round up and oxford) and they both used to get a decent headliner plus a couple more great acts.

What are you expecting for a city the size of Calgary? Seems a little insulting to Billy Idol and Blondie who still put asses in the seats when they tour.
Between the two of them they have probably sold around 70 million albums and had dozens of award nominations and top 40 hits. They will both be in the rock and roll hall of fame when its all said in done (Blondie already is).

agreed that it's a poor lineup for this type of festival.
I've seen many of the bands at our Canadian folk festivals and small venues about town.
the legacy acts are probably now touring at a casino near you.
guess you'd be paying for the few huge names in there and the fact it's Woodstock.
