Not to mention I doubt the Flames are on his 8 team no trade list.

Sounds like his reasons for shutting down the Minnesota grade is because he didnít believe they would be competing for a Cup. Could be that heís looking for an opportunity to win above all else, and Calgary would fit that.

...while I love pure finishers like Kessel, he is pretty horrific in his own zone.

Just came to post the same thing. That would be an uber-annoying and obnoxious line to play against.

Kessel is good in the playoffs. Flames are bad in the playoffs.

I'd move Brodie for him.

After dealing with the media in Toronto I would be stunned if Kessel would waive to come to any Canadian team.

He'll probably want to stay away from big media markets in general. That being said, is Calgary really that bad media wise on players? Not even close to Toronto or Montreal.

Even though he said he didn't want to go to Minnesota because they weren't a contender I think he'll cast that aside to get the right fit, and I think its Arizona. Plus as some have noted, they may not be that far out from a playoff berth.

Adding Kessel would easily allow Lindholm to shift to the center spot. I wouldn’t want to spend big though so Frolik + Jankowski works for me but not sure for the Pens.

If you would pass on Kessel, an 80+ point RW for Frolik and the 26th pick in the draft you are crazy! I would do that in a nanosecond.

media might not be an issue but he would be living and playing in a fishbowl. I think he'd prefer to go somewhere he'd be anonymous.

I'd much rather a prime aged top line C, but easier said than done, so if the price is right I'd take Kessel on the Flames in a split second. As someone just mentioned, it could allow for the Flames to move Lindholm to C without losing that top line RW/RHS threat.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Kessel
Tkachuk - Lindholm - _______
_______ - Backlund - _______
_______ - D. Ryan - ________

Pretty solid IMO.

Kessel wouldn't be my 1st choice, but I wouldn't be against it either.

I am just not sure that he would fit in a line with Gaudreau. He didn't play with Crosby or Malkin because he likes to carry the puck and create off the rush, but so do Crosby and Malkin and so does Gaudreau. I see him more on the 2nd line with Tkachuk.

If Calgary can pick up Kessel and Kadri for Bennett, Hamonic and Stone, all they would have to do is to not resign Hathaway...

The most annoying team that opposing players would want to punch...

And they could! Rename from Flames to the Ghandis, and they can have bench clearing sit-ins.

If Tre pulled that off he would be instantly annointed as the greatest GM ever.

I still want to see Lindholm tried at center on a more full time basis.

The Flames have the making of two dynamic top 6 lines to spread icetime around and make it hard for other teams to check both pairings.

Just need RWs (if Lindholm is moved).

I think regardless of who is acquired, Lindholm should centre Gaudreau. If that means Monahan moves to the wing on that line then so be it. Lindholm is a real centre, plays a 200 foot game and is strong on faceoffs. Monahan is really just a sniper, he might actually be better without the defensive responsibilities. If Mony is not the "centre of attention", he might be able to quietly sneak into scoring positions more and snipe.

Flames need to acquire another centre to play with Tkachuk and move Backlund to the third line where he can focus on being a shutdown centre. Backs just doesn't have the offensive upside to maximize Tkachuk's hockey IQ. That's why I think Kadri is perfect and if it takes the 26th overall and Jankowski to acquire him, I think it's worth it.

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Monahan
Tkachuk-Kadri-Mangiapane (noticed Mangi scores a lot of goals with his off wing one timer)
Bennett-Backlund-Lazar? (or a big RW who can skate and plays well defensively)
Dube-Ryan-Neal (Might be the best place to hide Neal, with two guys who can skate)

Curtis Lazar is likely brushing up on his conversational Russian. Or German. Or wherever his career takes him.

That's why I would like Kessel on this team. Put Bennett on the 2nd line and let him and Lindholm take the draws, mainly Lindholm.

I'm in for kessel. Hes a ppg talent who has shown he can drive an offense on his own in the past and also works well in compliment to other great pieces. I think he will cost more than people will like though

Kessel is 31 , 3 more years at an 8 mil cap hit per annum.

Flames can’t afford that hit and that’s fine.

6.8M Cap-hit.

Toronto is retaining 1.2M.
