Im still sour. The other moves tree makes this offseason are going to be very important.
And after letting it Marinate, still not a fan. Still shocked he'd do this and further more Susan, I think he smokes Marijuana cigarettes.....REEFERS!

Unless CapFriendly is incorrect, Lucic will either be required to be protected in the expansion draft, or he will need to waive the NMC to be exposed.
|
Is there any time that he can be bought out prior to the expansion drafting?
Assuming of course they don't buy him out before this season begins of course, because of course that would never happen.

Yeah, in the grand scheme of things, I'm still most-worried about losing one of the good young d-men (probably Kylington) more than any of the forwards. That is true whether Lucic is protected or not.

There is zero chance we have to protect Lucic. Can this discussion stop!

Sure, but it’ll cost you the entirety of his cap hit.

They do. It’s written in his contract.

The fact that we have many good players exposed is good thing. It means we have a good roster AND at the end of the day, Seattle can only take one player.
We were in great position in the Vegas draft only because we had a pretty bad roster, and it showed in the season we had after.
For that reason, I'm not too worried about who we have to expose or protect in the expansion draft. Just build the best team possible.

They can't buy him out this summer, so you're correct that would never happen. Only players who were on your roster at the most-recent trade deadline can be bought out during the second buyout window.
There will be two more buyout periods before the expansion draft (June 2020 and June 2021), but as has been mentioned many times before, Lucic's contract is effectively buyout-proof.

With this retention, the Oilers now have $4,883,333 in dead cap space with buyouts and retention.
That's more than Elias Lindholm gets paid

We all know how Ron Francis emphasizes acquiring good, young defencemen.

Ok, if the deal is done, then fans like us have jack to say about it.
Glass half full from me.
Maybe, just maybe, Lucic has something to prove, and turns his game around.
I am hoping this turns out better than when Neal was signed, but time will tell.

Decided to test this. Franchise mode, latest roster update April 23, 2019, hard trade difficulty. Neither side wanted to make this deal. Calgary wouldn't make the deal even with a guaranteed 2020 3rd LOL.

Just read the conditions. What a dumb trade all around by treliving.
Picking up one of the worst contracts in the league is a brave move, unfortunately, it's likely the beginning of the end for the treliving era if this team has another disappointing year/playoffs.

I’m fine with this.
We finished first in the west in spite of Neal, and when we needed him to step it up in th playoffs he was worse than he was in the regular season.
I don’t think Lucic will have a problem having better production than Neal with better 3rd/4th line teammates. Plus his give a cr@p meter is a lot higher than Neal so that will hopefully give guys like Jankowski a push.
The next time we play the Oilers and Kassian is running away, or Kadri is turtling with on the Avs everyone with be pretty happy.
Don’t forget that getting rid of Neal’s contract was always going to cost us something. If he could have performed like we thought he could have then this trade wouldn’t have happened. Both teams were trading from weakness. If Neal was a problem in our room I can’t see him having a better attitude in Edmonton.

I love this trade. I've never had a problem with Looch, and I really, really despised James Neal. He has such a smug, arrogant, punch-able face and he is terrible at the game of hockey.

if you didn't care enough to watch your team in the playoffs after a dream season like we just saw, do me a favour and don't post a thousand times a year. (almost 19 hundred posts in a 2 year history)
i don't know what i'll ever do without your incessant "insights"
