Default Anyone doing home hemodialysis?

My wife has Wegnars syndrome and as a result has lost about 80% of her kidney function
She's been on dialysis since January 2023. Last fall she started talking about doing dialysis at home. I was really intimidated by the commitment and responsibility. I was concerned about taking 6 weeks off work to complete the training. But it's not about me is it! Selfish bastard.

My wife was struggling and exhibiting signs of depression. She was doing in center treatments 3 times a week, almost always working all day, straight to dialysis and home at about 11 PM. So at the end of March we started training to do.it ourselves at home.

I am posting this because if there is anyone out there dealing with dialysis in their household I want to encourage you to explore home treatment options. I can already see a change in my wife's mood. The treatment frequency and intensity changes from in center dialysis and outcomes are improved as a result. It is a much better option for transplant candidates as stress on the heart is reduced.

As for me as a caregiver, it is really quite a simple process and not difficult to learn. Full transparency, my wife is a RN so that is definitely an advantage for me.

Anyway, if anyone is thinking about doing it and has questions I would be happy to try and answer them. Non- medical questions of course.
