this happened with Alex Barre-Boulet. Waived by the Lightning; claimed by the Kraken. Two weeks later, waived by the Kraken and reclaimed by the Lightning.

I was going to mention that one, but wasn't 100% sure.
I think it happens once in a while, but it just isn't big news because it only happens with low profile players.

This is an example of Phillips not getting a chance. In three games with Pittsburgh, he was a +1 in his last game and had 4 shots in total. The guy is a bonafide NHLer. In Washington, despite him scoring against Calgary on October 16th, he was only given 25 more games. Even with so few opportunities, he was able to put 3 assists in those 25 games. For the year, he has 5 points, which puts him tied with Jakob Markstrom. Markstrom has played 38 games, so Phillips has a higher PPG than Markstrom.
If one coach (besides Gulutzan, Peters, Ward, Sutter, Carbery, or Sullivan who all actually gave him chances) ever gives him a chance, he could break all scoring records. It's a shame he's never gotten a chance.

LOL. Sarcasm aside, 5 points gets you $4M in Edmonton.

I wouldn't mind claiming Phillips, giving him a few games and try to sneak him down to the Wranglers. He can be our version of Petan, Grimaldi, Fix-Wolansky. At least he will give us some excitement for AHL playoffs.

Phillips would be a good pickup for an organization wanting to make a AHL Calder Cup push.
Probably not the Wrangler's year for that, though.

Well, really, 0 points and 10 games played gets you 4 million in Edmonton. The 5 assists thus far have been the ‘bonus’ for the GM lol. Still time though bahahahahahaha.

I'm shocked they didn't play him on Saturday. They would have won with Phillips and his guaranteed multipoint game.

He's the type of guy the team will probably trade a low price for and he's available now for free.

Flames could've gotten Hanley as a throw-in on the Tanev deal.

What if a team lower on the priority list also puts in a claim? Can the Caps claim be conditional that they only want him if they can send him down?

Not sure. It isn't clear if the claim process is blind or open for all teams to see.
