If the schedule wasn't made the way it was on purpose it was very short-sighted by the schedule maker and league.

I've never seen a team get the amount of multi-day breaks that the Oilers have had this season. The amount of second night of a back to back is stupid too but that's nothing new. The league should be doing what it can to make sure it's split even between all three Western Canadian teams. If the venues being booked on certain days is what the issue is then book them during another week where they aren't.

The backup thing I think is just luck and the other team's coach making the wrong choice. Pittsburgh could have played Nedeljkovic in Calgary. He beat them earlier in the year. And just off the top of my head Vegas should have played Thompson in Calgary and Hill who has the Oilers number in Edmonton.

You should look at the actual stats instead of getting caught up in narratives if it bothers you so much.

Did you just provide a link to a season PREVIEW page that is using data from, and I quote...

"With the help of several computers, I simulated the 2023-2024 NHL regular season a million times in order to estimate what is likely to happen."

...and tell someone to use that link to look at "actual stats?"

Considering the subject is number of games played with multi-day breaks inbetween, here are some ACTUAL stats:

Games played after a 4-day break:
Highest: 5
EDM: 4
Lowest: 2

Games played after a 0-day break:
Highest: 12
EDM: 5
Lowest: 4

It breaks down the tired playing rested and rested playing tired. Oilers play one more than the flames in each. The Canucks play one more rested team and one less while tired than the oilers. Seems pretty balanced to me. Which was the point I was referring to in the post.

If I recall correctly, I believe Oilers are their No.1 and the Devils were being used as a distraction. I'm not very sure of this though and just going off memory.
