great movie that I dismissed until actually watching it.

also a movie that partly failed because the idiots that ran the studio didn't properly market it. they didn't have a clue.

I remember thinking when it came out that it was just a dumb stoner comedy and it wasn't anything like that.
yeah I walked into the theater that day with absolutely zero expectations, in fact can't even remember why we went to see it...walked out having seen what ended up being one of my 10 favorite movies

I love True Romance but it is a movie of great scenes stitched together, where as Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction show that Tarantino had learnt his craft, his films are all great scenes stitched together but he has learnt how to make it less obvious.

I've seen a few mentions of The Departed. Though a great movie, I much prefer the original Hong Kong version Infernal Affairs. Better acting and the rooftop and showdown scenes were more intense. The relationship between the protagonist and the captain felt more real and genuine.

But the movie's insistence on not using special effects, which I do love, also kills it in a few areas. Like the beach scenes, they really needed more extras if they weren't going to use CGI. There's supposed to be 400 000 men on the beach, but in the movie it looks like maybe 300. Or the scenes in town at the start of the movie. Dunkirk would have been absolutely leveled by this point, but since they insisted on filming in the actual town and not on a built set or with CGI, it looks ridiculous.

Spoiler!

Doesn't make it a bad movie but definitley keeps it out of perfect status, for me at least

As much as I love The Matrix, I think it suffers from the plot change of having humans being batteries and not the originally intended processors. I think it was higher-ups who were afraid that people at the time wouldn't understand the need for the Matrix to have CPUs but everyone understood that they needed an energy source. So I disagree that it fits under the perfect movie category, even if I wouldn't want it to be remade:

I never liked Dunkirk, thought it paled in comparison with the 1950's film it is clearly inspired by, that said the Town wasn't shelled that much and was largely standing as the allies pulled out, what they missed was the vast amount of vehicles, thousands of trucks bikes cars the BEF and French dumped along the roads

American Psycho for the win (and I don't think it's been mentioned yet). Love that movie every time I watch it, and while some might debate the ending, I reckon the debatable ending is part of what makes it perfect.

For a while in the late 90s I reckoned every movie that started with the word American was destined to be good: Psycho, Beauty, Pie, History X.

Then the Psycho sequel came out and ruined everything.

Skylar aka Minnie Driver ruins the movie. Well, it's still a good movie, but every scene she's in is horrible because she's super fataing annoying. I also like my leading ladies to be super hot, which she is not.

Just when I think you can't possibly Sliver anymore, you do it again.

A film I had forgotten about but in these times I would recommend everyone watch a Man For All Seasons, mind you make sure it's the Paul Scofield Oscar winning original, not the Charlton Heston version

I'd like to add Midway, the original.

Great casting
Tremendous special effects for its time
Great scripting
Pretty accurate historically.
At the time, this was a mega movie.
