No tent, mainly the “specials” format.

Ah, nice. The desert camping one has got to be my favourite GT episode.

Amazon has announced it has commissioned a fourth season that will take on a completely new format as a series of specials costing tens of millions of pounds, with staggered release dates (via The Guardian).

Plus, Jeremy, Richard and James will "ditch the tent and take on big adventure road trips that fans around the world love", in a shift that brings to mind their old Top Gear specials that saw them abandoning the studio for on-location challenges.

The Grand Tour, James May, Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson
AMAZON PRIME
On top of these new Grand Tour specials, Clarkson, Hammond and May are all going to start producing individual shows for Amazon based on their own interests. But don't get too concerned about the gang splitting up!

"We’re proud to say that Prime Video will continue to be the home for Jeremy, Richard and James,” Amazon Prime Video's Jay Marine said.

Also James May is doing a solo project for Amazon called "Our man in ... Japan"

Flash Walken is okay with the Grand Tour?

Is it a full moon or something?

That Porsche segment was fantastic.

The Mongolia special was one of their best. It's pretty amazing that a truck they built from a crate was able to get them through all the various treacherous terrains with hardly a hiccup. The feeling of impending peril if they didn't get to their destination was palpable, even though you knew the camera crew was there to back them up if anything went seriously wrong.

I thought they would end the season on this episode but there's another one next week.

They definitely found their feet on this one and wondering how they're going to make an epic road trip even better, forcing them to make their own car in the middle of nowhere was brilliant.

Just finished this episode. After the last few episodes I was really hoping for a special. Wow! I was pretty sure it was going to be a tough task to outdo the RV episode but I think this may have at least tied it or may have just gone past. The RV has more humour but the Mongolia task of building a car then travelling hundreds of Km’s through almost impassible terrain was simply genius! The 3 of them getting blasted by mud, sand and rain had me loling pretty good and when James fell head over in the bog, I almost fell off my couch.

Favourite episodes this year:

1. Mongolia
2. RV
3. China

The best season of Top Gear and TGT in my opinion. It has been epic! The next season will be more specials without the tent and audience. I'm looking forward to it!

Looking forward to watching the new episode tonight. I finished the previous episode (Lancia, luggage cars) yesterday and it was...okay. If the Mongolia episode is better than the RV one then I think I'll love it.

Next week's episode should be interesting. Here's what Clarkson said about it:

Yes, the Mongolia episode was probably one of the greatest Top Gear/Grand Tour specials of all time.

Spoiler!

So the next season will only be two episodes, possibly aired months apart.

https://www.grandtournation.com/theg...r-season-news/

When they said they were only doing specials I figured it would be 6-8 episodes of them and they were cutting the studio segments to focus on filming. I wish they had been more clear about it from the beginning.
