The rule should be changed to not even directing the puck is allowed, the only skate goal that should be allowed is if it accidentally hits a skate and goes in

They did that. Was called the Brett Hull rule. They f***ed that up too
Unless you throw the puck in the net or it goes in with a high stick it should count. I watched about 10 different good goals that were directed in with a skate and I can’t tell the difference anymore on what is and isn’t a goal. Make it simple.
Not gonna make excuses, the flames should have never been in this do or die tonight, but looking at the evidence below it seems like the NHL would rather have "star players" against each other, rather then being honest to the sport.
The way the rule is worded, the fact the puck is likely to go into the net on its own doesn’t matter IMO.
The rule is whether the puck is propelled into the net using a “distinct kicking motion”. And that using the skate to propel the puck into the net WITHOUT using a “distinct kicking motion” is legal.
So what is a “distinct” kicking motion? Distinct means everyone knows it when they see it. Because people know what it means to kick a puck into the net. So even if you accept that Coleman purposely slid his skate towards the puck (which he admittedly did), that is not a “distinct” kicking motion.
Anyone who says otherwise is ignoring the replays of all the other goals that have been allowed where there is a much clearer kicking motion. The NHL simply got it wrong, either due to incompetence or something else entirely.

Definitely an absolutely garbage call. The Flames got screwed on this one and I don't think there is any denying it. All these example of goals that counted are definitive evidence of it.
time for the Flames to consider giving an 8 year, $11MM deal to the refs and NHL front office brass. Need to fix it in favour of Calgary not have it fixed against Calgary.
Watching the post-game interviews with players, it's hard not to actually laugh a bit at how players in the NHL are so restricted from saying anything critical/negative about the league. It's so silly and ridiculous. Everyone biting their tongues despite clearly knowing what the reality of the play was.

There are two rules I would like to see changed ASAP. The first being kicking the puck into the net. If they get the puck in the net it is a goal. The second being hand passes outside the defensive zone. It is stupid that hand passes are blown down outside the defensive and I don't understand the logic behind allowing it in one situation but not another.
