Edmonton at Calgary

The challenge to the Calgary Flames is extremely simple heading into Thursday's home clash with the Edmonton Oilers: Win or the season is over.

Trailing 3-1 in the best-of-seven Western Conference second-round series, the Flames are in last-chance territory to keep their Stanley Cup hopes alive. They must win three straight games against an Oilers squad that took control of the series with Tuesday's 5-3 win.

"It's up to us to see what we're made of and go out there and play our game for 60-plus minutes, if that's what it takes, to give ourselves a chance to stay alive," veteran forward Milan Lucic said.

"When your backs are against the wall, your desperation goes up and you see what your team is really made of. That's something all our energy and all our focus has to go into."

Five takeaways from the Calgary Flames’ Game 4 loss to the Edmonton Oilers

Game 1 was a track meet. Game 2 featured wild swings. Game 3 featured some really ugly breakdowns by the Flames. Game 4 might be the only game in this series where we could say that the Flames team we expected to see – the team we saw for most of the Dallas series – was front and centre. They weren’t without their faults – the second, third and fourth Oilers goals were the product of Flames breakdowns as much as they were products of the Oilers making good plays – but the Flames played their style of game for the first time in this series.

I believe this is the very definition of must win game. They badly need to score first so they can play their style of game as they have been chasing since early in game two.

Elimination game for the Flames but they’re on home ice, I like our chances in this one and get back in the series.

Go Flames!

So, Markström is starting?

Yeah I'm not going to wake up at 4:30 to see this.

Just win this and push it to game 6, and I'll be happy with whatever the result after that.

I can't stomach 4 straight losses to the Oilers but if they at least make a series out of it, I'll be ok.

Win tonight in convincing fashion and give a good, honest effort on Saturday in Edmonton.

I'm not sure they can, but I truly believe if the Flames can push this to a game 7, they'll win 5-0.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Flames take this one, but bracing for the worst. Ultimately it will come down to:

- Markstrom and which version shows up; the Vezina version or the choker Canuck fans warned us about.

- Will the 1st line show up and have a big game? Or more sludging around and unable to sustain any kind of pressure?

- Will Tyler Foley or Jarnkrok finally...finally break out and have a big game? Almost lolled myself to death with this one, but a fan can hope

- Keeping the stupid ####ing penalties to a MINIMUM

Keep the defensive breakdowns to a minimum, contain McDrai to a couple points and all should be good...right?

Not only is today an absolute must win day, it's also something called "eat more fruit and vegetables day"' (seriously! Go look it up). The Gruesome Twosome spread the word about healthy eating:

Spoiler!

Go Flames

Flames 3 highest paid players need to be their best tonight.

Tkachuk
Gaudreau
Markstrom

Play their game where they have beat the Oilers 3 of 4 times this year. Just worry about tonight and get the W
