Well then. This escalated quickly. Goodbye Flames if this is the case.

I think ownership is seeing a ton of escalation on the project itself and don't want to absorb the cost.

Haha, so Gondek is trying to change the deal and pissed off the Flames to the point where they're willing to walk away so she turned to Twitter for support...?

CSEC can go F themselves if they think they can extract more money from the public especially with what has happened over the last couple of years.

Jyoti's on a roll!

Climate emergency, advising Quebec on how to run their province, and now messing up an already done arena deal.

I wish I could a billionaire and get upset about spending a extra $9.7 million.

Feels like there is more to it than 10 million bucks, either something else has materially changed or that isn't the full story

They aren't.

This was Gondek going back for more money for "climate mitigation" and roadway building.

Quote:
Since I was elected Mayor, Administration & my office have been working with CSEC to mitigate any additional costs. Two costs were identified: climate mitigation of around $4m and road/sidewalk right of way issues of $12.1m.

5/6 The City came to the table to assist with $6.4m in roadways leaving $9.7m for the Flames. Based on this gap, CSEC informed me they are walking away from our deal.

On a project worth over $650m, to have one party walk away for 1.5% of the value of the deal is staggering.
Or at least that's what that reads like.

Yeah, no way we’re getting the whole story.

Murray Edwards not bargaining in good faith? After all the bull #### with Calgary Next, threatening to relocate, bringing in Bettman, etc?

I'm SHOCKED.

??? The Flames blow millions on mediocre players all the time… such a disappointment to read this today and if the gap is less than 10 mill on a 650 mill deal it seems ludicrous.

I thought the revised deal meant that CSEC was solely responsible for cost overruns?

The budget from two years ago would be laughably low now.

They probably just don't want to build it. 9 million is just an excuse

Might be getting huffy about the climate mitigation part. Roadway/sidewalk right of way isn't a crazy cost overrun.
My guess is if they hadn't locked in materials, the project is probably going to be way north of the original 550 million

Roadway construction isn't arena overruns though, I don't imagine "climate mitigation" is either.

Man after such an amazing start with this team and truly treat-to-watch hockey it’s incredible how low I feel now reading this… always seems to be something with this team can’t we just enjoy a damn season for once??

Is that a fact? It’s hard to tell from the tweet alone. I’m not even sure what paying $4m for “climate mitigation” even entails…
